Motorists could save £3,750 on a vehicle as | Tech News

Drivers could slash £3,750 off the price of the new Nissan LEAF following the UK Government’s resolution to broaden its Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme at present. For grant eligibility, vehicles typically must be an M1 passenger vehicle, emit 0gCO2/km at the tailpipe and possess a minimum battery range of 100 miles (160km). They must also satisfy a ‘minimum sustainability criteria’ and comply with various other requirements established by the Government.

The Nissan LEAF qualifies for the maximum £3,750 discount available under the ECG scheme, as it is classified as a ‘Band 1’ vehicle. Other motors categorised as Band 1 include the Citroën ë-C5 Aircross Long Range, the Ford E-Tourneo Courier, and the Ford Puma Gen-E.

A further 35 vehicles have been categorised as ‘Band 2’ cars under the ECG programme, qualifying for a maximum discount of £1,500. A comprehensive list of qualifying Band 2 vehicles is available at the bottom of the page.

Government figures reveal that more than 35,000 motorists have already utilised the grant to make the switch to electric vehicles since the ECG launched in July. The latest announcement coincides with electric vehicle ownership reaching record levels, now accounting for one in four new car purchases.

In a statement today, James Taylor, Nissan GB Managing Director, also said: “We’re completely delighted to have the ability to verify LEAF’s pricing at £32,249 together with the electric car grant, which is able to ship an accessible path to EV possession for our prospects.

“This is fantastic news for people looking to switch to fully electric motoring as they now have the reassurance that comes from a car with up to 386 miles of range, all the tech they could want and the real-world benefits that come from Nissan’s 15 years of EV expertise. Band 2 vehicles within the ECG scheme

Most vehicles listed within the ECG initiative are presently categorised as ‘Band 2’ automobiles. The highest low cost accessible for vehicles assessed as Band 2 is £1,500.
