Scammers in Minnesota have ripped off taxpayers to the tune of $1 billion — whereas the state’s progressive leaders stood back and watched.

Over the weekend, lots of of state social employees skewered Gov. Tim Walz not only for ignoring shady nonprofits’ shameless milking of the state’s beneficiant welfare system, but additionally for punishing employees who raised alarms.

An X account claiming to communicate for 480 present Minnesota Department of Human Services staff posted on Saturday that “Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota.”

“We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on,” but he “systematically retaliated against whistleblowers” and “did his best to discredit fraud reports.”

Dozens of fraudsters, nearly all Somali immigrants, set up sham nonprofits, billed the state for providers that they by no means truly delivered and used the money to fund lavish life; some of the stolen funds even wound up within the fingers of an al Qaeda-linked terrorist group in Somalia.

Federal prosecutors have convicted at the least 59 scammers, with dozens more charged.

One “charity,” Feeding Our Future, faked feeding tens of hundreds of hungry children; others pretended to help the autistic and the homeless — even because the money truly purchased luxurious automobiles, journey and real estate.

And it was precisely as simple as taking sweet from infants — as a result of Walz’s administration didn’t need to offend the state’s sizeable Somali voting bloc by acknowledging the theft, and melted on the first cry of “racism!”

Yes: Early on, the state Department of Education began questioning Feeding Our Future’s fishy invoices; the nonprofit threatened a lawsuit charging bigotry — and the questions stopped.

The progressive failure goes far deeper than that woke failure: Walz and his group put ideology above all, together with sound fiscal management and different fundamentals of good authorities — and the Somali bloc was hardly the one vested curiosity they favored over the public good.

Walz could also be a weakling, however the state’s elites stood with him.

If progressivism now means letting scammers and particular pursuits take the state to the cleaners, anticipate Minnesota to begin outgrowing its progressive heritage.
