Red Bull’s Max Verstappen virtually pulled off a gorgeous comeback within the Formula 1 World Championship race, solely to lose to McLaren’s Lando Norris, who gained his maiden crown by two factors.
Verstappen was a four-time reigning World Champion, and initially, it was Oscar Piastri who led the way in which for McLaren till Norris took control. Although McLaren bested Red Bull in 2025, groups are already bracing themselves for unprecedented change subsequent season.
Red Bull has already undergone personnel modifications, with former principal Christian Horner one of a number of high-profile departures. Former Red Bull Head of Operations Richard Hopkins is uncertain how the crew will carry out in 2026, even with Verstappen confirming his return.
Hopkins left Red Bull in 2015, however joined the crew in 2007 and helped the group develop into the powerhouse it’s at present. While Hopkins believes that Red Bull continues to be sturdy, he has issues about subsequent season.
Speaking solely to Express U.S. Sports by way of Replay Poker, Hopkins mentioned, “One of the things that Christian did was build a strong team around him. So a figure like Christian should be able to leave, and the team should be able to go on. However, last year wasn’t a great team, a great year for Red Bull.

“There’s a lot of scandal, clearly, round Christian, Max, and his dad, Jos, and there is a lot of issues happening, and a lot of issues that we might not ever discover out the complete extent of what actually occurred during that time. But people like Rob Marshall (Head of Engineering) moved on to McLaren.
“Adrian (Newey) obviously left as well. Jonathan Wheatley has now gone and is obviously with the new Audi team. So a lot of that strength that Christian built up has gone, but there are people who come in from the back as well.
“I believe from an aero level of view, Red Bull continues to be sturdy. I believe the true marker right here is gonna be how they enter 2026. It’s a large change, large engine change, large aero change. Something that clearly, the likes of Adrian Newey completely experience.”

Horner departed Red Bull in June after a long-term scandal involving Jos Verstappen, Max’s father. However, British trio Adrian Newey (chief technology officer), Rob Marshall (lead designer), and Jonathan Wheatley (sporting director/mechanic) also departed the team.
The departures come at a pivotal moment, as F1 has announced a series of changes for next season. Cars will be smaller and more environmentally friendly, weighing 30kg less while also being 10cm narrower.
Engines will also have a nearly perfect split between electric and internal combustion power, and will utilize fully sustainable fuels. While the engine size remains the same, the MGU-H, which recovers energy from the exhaust and turbo, has been removed.

As a result, teams are expected to make significant aerodynamic changes, and movable front and rear wings have been authorized. DRS overtaking is also a thing of the past, and several other changes have been made. It’s one of the largest operational changes in F1 history.
“Adrian’s previous historical past, he at all times hits the ground operating with a regulation change,” Hopkins continued. “They have no Adrian at Red Bull with this regulation change.
“So, does Red Bull have the strength and depth within their aero team to deliver for 2026? I think that’s where we will see how much it’s affected.
“I believe that actually, there’s most likely one other couple of elements as properly, however that is the clear and apparent one that we are going to see if Red Bull are on the high come the primary race of 2026. Especially Red Bull, new engine, new engine to them, form of their own engine.
“Yes, they’ve still got Max, but it’s gonna be a very interesting start of the season for Red Bull. I think that’s gonna be really interesting to see. If they’re at the top, they’ve done an amazing job, and we can answer all the questions or doubts we had.
“I believe, you recognize, Formula One groups are 1,000-1500 people; in the event that they’re completely reliant on one individual, that is not good for a crew. So I believe Adrian shifting on, Rob Marshall shifting on, Jonathan shifting on. I believe there will probably be different energy coming in from behind them, so we will see. We ought to see with that.”
