Broadway isn’t what it used to be — and I’m not – Latest News
Recalling days of yore & mine
To honor our new 12 months, I checked outdated stuff that ought to’ve been discarded back when Julius Caesar was round.
Broadway? “Can-Can” with Gwen Verdon. Comedy? “The Seven Year Itch” with Eddie Albert. Drama — Deborah Kerr in “Tea and Sympathy” on the Barrymore. Atlantic City spherical journey: $3.80. The Pennsylvania — then the Statler — Tommy Dorsey. B’manner and forty eighth had very in McGinnis restaurant — dancing and a $3.95 shore dinner.
Norman Vincent Peale’s Marble Collegiate Church did a particular Watch Night Service. Toscanini’s “Carmen.” Capitol Theater? “Miss Sadie Thompson” with Rita Hayworth. TV went massive — Steve Allen and Guy Lombardo at upscale Plaza — (now with a block full of Citi Bikes fronting it) — $24.
Looking back, assume. Now, what might be higher for New York City different than a return of de Blasio.
Alien ebook is orbiting
Seems we’re having guests. Not from throughout our borders. From throughout our universe.
UFOs are actually referred to as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. Say that 3 times. New Amazon doc “The Age of Disclosure” is unearthing unearthly issues. Filmmakers are actually speaking to Sean Hannity, Bret Baier, Joe Rogan. Producer Jay Stratton has a new HarperCollins ebook coming. For him the factor is personal.
Stratton: “We’re leading this research. We now know more than China and Russia.”
What’s in a title
Some 2026 kvetches, as a result of who cares about these names:
Jake Gyllenhaal: “My last name gets butchered. In Swedish it means ‘golden hall.’ Once David Letterman called me ‘Jill’ and ‘Ham’ the whole time. Hollywood mispronounces me like ‘guile’ or ‘jilted.’ Neither’s the right way to try and land a part.”
Juliette Binoche: “People mangle my last name. Some pronounce it like ‘Binocue’ — same as a cue stick. It’s pronounced ‘Bee-nosh.’ I just smile and try to do my best interview.”
Rachel Weisz: “Irritating when people pronounce my name with a ‘W.’ It’s like ‘vice.’ Please!”

Renée Zellweger: “It’s pronounced phonetically but people mangle it. In America something about a ‘z’ is intimidating.”
John Leguizamo: “I’ve been called ‘legs’ and ‘Amo.’ Also ‘legs’ and ‘Gumbo.’ Doesn’t change. So now I go through a whole movie and never hear anyone actually mention my real name.”
Jacqueline Bisset: “I’ve given up trying to tell people it’s not French. Some p.r. person said it rhymes with ‘kiss it.’ That’s horribly embarrassing. I haven’t been able to shake that embarrassment for years. Tell people the ‘t’ is pronounced.”
German director Wim Wenders: “At a Yankee game I heard the name broadcast so I rushed over. It was guys selling hot dogs.”
Aida Turturro: “Anyone calls me Ada again I’ll scream. It’s pronounced like the opera. Someone mispronounces it once more I’ll strangle them.”
Neve Campbell: “The first name’s pronounced ‘Nehv’ not Nee-vee. I told that to an audience and they roared with approval.”
Today you’ve to watch out for pickpockets. You know what a pickpocket is? It’s a politician who takes your money with out having to get elected.
