California Governor Gavin Newsom is among the many proponents calling for measurable change within the AI sphere. He took to social media to call on Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Grok. He stated, “xAI’s decision to create and host a breeding ground for predators to spread nonconsensual sexually explicit AI deepfakes, including images that digitally undress children, is vile.”

He continued, “I am calling on the Attorney General to immediately investigate the company and hold xAI accountable.”

As of Wednesday afternoon Bondi has not responded to the post.

Last week, Bondi launched a memo citing President Trump’s government order from final month that aimed to limit “excessive” state AI guidelines. The order argued that a “patchwork” of overlapping or contradictory state-by-state rules might sluggish down the AI industry.

This morning, Musk took to X to declare he’s “not aware of any naked underage images generated by Grok.” Despite numerous claims from customers stating in any other case.

“Obviously, Grok does not spontaneously generate images; it does so only according to user requests,” he acknowledged. “When asked to generate images, it will refuse to produce anything illegal, as the operating principle for Grok is to obey the laws of any given country or state. Earlier this month, Musk and xAI stated that they’re taking motion “against illegal content on X, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), by removing it, permanently suspending accounts, and working with local governments and law enforcement as necessary.” But Grok’s responses to consumer requests proceed to pump out sexual imagery of actual people in pretend conditions.
