Anger has erupted in Cornwall as councillors assault plans to slap parking expenses on a landmark gifted to the area by King Charles. Cornwall Council has put ahead a proposal to start out charging drivers to stop at Kit Hill Country Park.

Under the plans, new tariffs could possibly be utilized at 12 further car parks in addition to “winter charges” at 11 additional areas. Up till 41 years in the past, Kit Hill was owned by the Duchy of Cornwall till the then Prince Charles gifted the land to the people of Cornwall in 1985 to have fun the start of his son, Prince William. Since the 400-acre website has been managed by Cornwall Council, information of doable parking charges has not been welcomed.

Liberal Democrat councillor Adrian Parsons rejected the concept, explaining: “Kit Hill – one of Cornwall’s iconic landmarks, being gifted to the people of Cornwall in 1985 by the then-Duke of Cornwall, now King Charles, to celebrate the birth of his son, Prince William.

“The wording used on the time by Cornwall Council and different our bodies strongly signifies the supposed objective of this reward. The land was gifted on behalf of the people of Cornwall, implying that continued public entry and public benefit have been core values.”

He replied: “I think the councillor’s argument would hold water if all our car parks were free but they’re not. The majority are charged and some are not. This is exploring the ones that aren’t currently charged.”

Cornwall Council advised Express.co.uk that the modifications are proposals, with no resolution but made. They defined that the public session runs till February 4 – with responses set to be thought of and a report produced with suggestions.

This will then be offered to and thought of by a scrutiny committee in March earlier than it’s offered to the council’s cupboard for a last resolution.
