Sturla Holm Laegreid has revealed why he broke down in tears whereas confessing to infidelity after claiming a bronze medal on the Winter Olympics. The Norwegian biathlete completed third within the 20km biathlon on Tuesday, behind compatriot Johan-Olav Botn who took gold.
In a beautiful post-race second, an emotional Laegreid caught everybody off guard by admitting he’d been untrue to his girlfriend of six months.
Struggling to carry back tears, he informed Norwegian broadcaster NRK: “There is something I want to share with someone who may not be watching today. Half a year ago I met the love of my life, the world’s most beautiful and nicest person. Three months ago I made the mistake of my life and cheated on her, and I told her about that a week ago. This has been the worst week of my life.”
Laegreid went on: “I had the gold medal in life, and I am sure there are many people who will see things differently, but I only have eyes for her. Sport has come second these last few days. Yes, I wish I could share this with her.
“You by no means know how many probabilities you get, and I do not assume I’ll get one other likelihood at real love like I had together with her, however I’m keen to do something.”

“I’m keen to drop a nuclear bomb on NRK and commit social suicide and be hated by everybody. Because I’m already hated by her, and I hope that perhaps it could actually make her understand how a lot I like her.”
During his press conference, Laegreid was questioned about his decision to publicly admit his unfaithfulness.
“I do not wish to assume I did not attempt the whole lot to get her back,” he responded. “We make completely different decisions during our lives and that is how you make life, principally.
“Today, I made the choice to tell the world what I did, so maybe, maybe there is a chance she will see what she really means to me and maybe not.
“Again, I do not wish to steal the show at present. I hope this is rather like a day-or-two-long factor. I have never received any reactions from the lady I discussed.
“I’m happy because maybe she hasn’t seen it. Maybe she will see it at the right time. I hope I don’t make anything worse for her.
“But perhaps it could actually help, I do not know. I hope there may be a glad ending in the long run, so we are going to see what I’ll do.”
