Elliott Sadler will probably be returning to motion after more than half a decade since he stepped away.

Sadler, who is understood to have survived the toughest recorded crash in NASCAR historical past, final raced within the Xfinity Series – now referred to as the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series – in 2019. And now, the 50-year-old has introduced that he can be driving within the SMART Modified Tour race for Sadler-Stanley Racing, a workforce co-owned by his brother, Hermie Sadler.

“Preparing for this race has brought back some fond memories I have from the early days of my racing career,” Sadler stated, based on FloRacing. “The competitors I raced in opposition to each weekend at South Boston Speedway was the best within the nation, and it ready me as I moved up the ladder.

“I am looking forward to carrying my old number and colors at a place that means so much to me.” What’s more, Sadler explained what the experience would be like for him, especially as he gets behind the wheel of a vehicle he’d never driven in a race before.

“It’s pretty cool to be able to get back in a race car after being retired for five or six years and being in a race for my brother in a Modified that I have never driven before,” he said in a statement, according to South Boston Speedway’s website. “I’ve never driven a modified so that’s pretty cool.”

He added: “This (racing a Modified) is something new, and I’m also going back to where it all started,” Sadler pointed out. “I’m going back home where I grew up watching my uncles race. Then, I was on my brother’s pit crew, and later I won the track championship.

“South Boston Speedway has a lot of memories with my family, so this is only natural that we go back there for my first ever Modified race. I’m looking forward to being there and maybe eating a few bologna burgers along the way.”

As Sadler continues to gear up for his return, the former NASCAR star made sure to thank Dale Earnhardt Jr. for giving him the inspiration to continue racing after almost a decade away from the top stock car series.

“Look @DaleJr … you made me really feel like I can do it !!! So I’m doing it !! Back within the saddle again !! Bigger (actually) and higher than ever!!!” the 50-year-old posted on X in response to South Boston Speedway’s official X account saying Sadler’s return to the monitor.

Sadler will make his Modified racing debut on March 21 at South Boston Speedway within the Third Annual Pace-O-Matic King og the Modifieds powered by Dominion Energy.
