Austin Cindric texted Dale Earnhardt Jr to ask him for his thoughts on a race livery dedicated to his father.
Cindric’s Team Penske car will feature a special throwback paint scheme for the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, with a tribute being paid to Earnhardt. His No.2 Freightliner Ford Mustang will be painted blue and yellow in homage to the classic car driven by Earnhardt in 1979 and 1980.

The car is virtually identical to the one driven by Earnhardt, and it seems Cindric wanted the late driver’s family to be involved. In a classy gesture, the Penske driver sent Earnhardt Jr a message to make sure the livery tribute had his seal of approval.
“Austin text me a few days ago to see what I thought,” he posted on X. “I told him it’s always such an honor for our family to see dad represented during the Darlington throwback weekend.”
In a statement, Cindric spoke of his gratitude over being able to pay homage to Earnhardt’s legacy, saying: “There are few names in our sport more recognizable than Earnhardt.
“The opportunity to pay tribute to a legend, while also recognizing the incredible history of the No. 2 in NASCAR, was the goal behind this scheme.
“Freightliner has always been an incredible partner for us at Team Penske and played a key role in bringing this vision to life.
“We’ve had a lot of fun working through the details, and I hope our car stands out for fans at the track and those tuning in during Darlington Throwback Weekend.”
