Who will judge the chief judge who says courts are – Latest News
Exhibit A for how badly New York politicians have twisted the state’s legal system must be Chief Judge Rowan Wilson — who simply proudly delivered a speech demanding leniency for murderers and different critical criminals and violating primary judicial ethics by urging voters to reject powerful judges.
As the head of the state’s high bench, the Court of Appeals, and chief of the whole Empire State judicial department, Wilson has a clear responsibility to keep away from pointless controversy, not to mention something resembling electioneering — but apparently he can’t be bothered to behave.
Speaking at CUNY School of Law (which is infamous for pushing far-left jurisprudence), Wilson described the judicial system he runs as “stupid” as a result of it sends murderers and rapists to jail for long phrases of incarceration.
He stepped means out of bounds by endorsing the proposed “Second Look Act,” which might give inmates serving long sentences one other likelihood to get out early, on high of many comparable “empty the prisons” so-called reforms of current years.
“They hurt someone maybe very seriously in the past,” Wilson mused.
“But they have come to be a very different person” — a minimum of, that’s what he imagines to occur all the time.

The victims of legal savagery and their households received’t discover Wilson’s religion in the energy of redemption very touching, however plainly the judge doesn’t spend a lot time eager about them.
Nope: He’s upset that it’s so laborious to “get judges at the moment of sentencing” to appreciate “that there isn’t a re-sentencing available.”
Evidently, he imagines that New York judges are so dim they don’t understand that when they ship a guilty legal to jail . . . he’s actually going to go there!

Worse, he has contempt for jurists who don’t share his delusions, urging New Yorkers to watch for and vote out judges who impose powerful sentences: “You can find out who those people are . . . don’t vote for them and get other people not to vote for them.”
Republican legislators have filed a criticism with the judicial conduct commission, stating Wilson’s blatant violations of the state Rules of Judicial Conduct, which specify that judges “shall refrain from inappropriate political activity” together with “publicly opposing” candidates for workplace.
Good luck: The commission received’t cross the Albany Democrats who pressured Gov. Kathy Hochul to raise Wilson in the first place after deep-sixing her own selection.
The Legislature’s leaders imposed Wilson regardless of (or as a result of of?) his disregard for rape victims and mad arguments for declaring animals to be people; they’ve deliberately made New York’s courts each legal’s best buddy.
