Dave Portnoy can’t resist dig at Donald Trump and – Sports News
Barstoool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took a jab at President Donald Trump after the latter pledged to terminate the “rule of unelected bureaucrats” within the government. Portnoy also humorously referred to Elon Musk as the “co-president”.
The South African billionaire was previously dubbed by Trump as being in control of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a department created in January with the aim of modernizing federal technology and software to enhance governmental efficiency and productivity.
Despite Trump’s assertions about Musk, the official word from the White House is that Amy Gleason holds the position of acting administrator for DOGE.
Interestingly, the Tesla and SpaceX magnate isn’t even listed as a department employee, leaving his role ambiguous. Justice department lawyer Bradley Humphreys has described Musk as a “close adviser to the president”, a statement confirmed by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
She explained that Musk was invited to “oversee” DOGE, with “career officials” appointed to support him in this endeavor.
The president’s comments during his address to Congress on Tuesday, delivered as Musk observed from the House gallery, sparked amusement among his Capitol Hill critics.
His declaration that “the days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over” and his aim to “reclaim democracy from this unaccountable bureaucracy” stirred controversy.
Sports media personality Portnoy was among those puzzled by Trump’s statements, especially considering Musk’s role within the DOGE. He took to X to express his thoughts: “Gotta admit this one didn’t quite land since Elon is basically Co-President.”
Portnoy wasn’t alone in his confusion over Trump’s remarks. Democratic Representative Chuy Garcia posted a picture of Musk on X, quoting the president’s words about “unelected bureaucrats” as the caption.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren also chimed in, agreeing with Trump’s stance on “unelected bureaucrats” but suggesting Musk as the first to be dismissed: “I agree with Donald Trump that an unelected bureaucrat should be fired. Let’s start with Elon Musk.”
Representative Pramila Jayapal, chair emerita of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, weighed in on President Trump’s remarks, questioning on X: “Trump: ‘The days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over.’ What about unelected billionaire shadow president, Elon Musk?” Following her lead, Democratic Representative Brendan Boyle chimed in with his take: “‘The days of being ruled by unelected bureaucrats is over’. Meanwhile, shadow president and unelected billionaire Elon Musk watches from above, making sure Trump sticks to the script.”
In any case, Musk was present in the Oval Office when President Trump discussed the objectives of DOGE in February, declaring: “The people voted for major government reform and that’s what the people are going to get. They’re going to get what they voted for.”
