“It’s been a lot of work (on road courses),” he added. “I’ve put so much effort into the road course side of things over the last year and a half.
“Because of that I care so much about it. The pieces were there today and I probably wasn’t missing the skill today, I was missing the mental strength to do my job in a situation like that.
“It catches me off guard because that’s not who I am and I’m better than that. I probably need to feel this pain for a while to be better because of it.”
Love later made his solution to Victory Lane, the place he congratulated Zilisch, who later expanded on the connection between their two households in his post-race press convention.
Zilisch added: “Jesse’s parents treat me like family and my parents do their best to do the same as well. It means a lot to be able to race against one of my best friends pretty often.
“We always respect each other and push each other to be better.”
