Joey Logano makes feelings clear on Ryan Blaney’s – Sports News
Joey Logano is delighted to see his teammate Ryan Blaney tied down to a new contract at Team Penske.
While Logano is a three-time champion, Blaney has emerged as the highest driver at Team Penske over the past 18 months. But Logano believes him staying put is barely going to benefit the whole group.
Speaking at Watkins Glen, Logano stated: “It affects the whole team. I think, honestly, Ryan’s probably one fo the best if not the best driver on the race track right now, so it’s a no-brainer to lock him in.
“That was my suggestion. Don’t be too late on this one!,” he joked.
“We’re glad to have him. He’s a great asset to have at Team Penske. Brings a lot to the table. Obviously brings a lot of speed but brings a lot of knowledge too, and some good direction.
“Proud of them being able to do that, and having some consistency helps. Any time there’s a driver change you’ve got a year of learning what they’re like at each track, what are their trends, what they want in their car vs yours and when you’re looking at their notes vs yours, setups, it’s not really clear.
“The picture’s not clear for a couple of years. So nice to have some consistency there.”
Discussing his own powerful season, which took one other irritating flip with a pit lane crash final week, Logano stated: “It’s not far off of where we’ve been in the past. I don’t think we’ve had a stretch of races this tough, though. This is probably a little more extreme than we’ve had.”
“You just keep grinding. What are you supposed to do? You can’t quit,” Logano stated when discussing his mindset transferring ahead.
“You’ve got to keep pushing through. It’s a long season, a long way to go. Yeah, it’s been tough — I can’t hide from that. It’s frustrating; it’s hard. I’ve also been here before.
“This is where the tough get going. It is what it is, you have to keep figuring things out and figure out how to be better and get ourselves back where we need to be in points.
“I look at Texas before we got in that pit-road wreck — speed was there, car was fast, arguably the fastest car that last run as we were trying to get our way through the field. I felt good about that. There are some positives to take out of all those things. So you look at that, learn from the mistakes, and you move on.”
