Sebastien Buemi has been dubbed “motorsport’s busiest driver,” but the Swiss racing driver has no curiosity in slowing down. The 37-yr-outdated has been racing for over 20 years and is one of motorsport’s most adorned drivers outdoors of F1.

He is splitting his time between full-time racing in Formula E and the World Endurance Championship, and simulator testing for Red Bull F1. Buemi is second in Formula E’s all-time wins chief with 14 victories and the one driver to win the Monaco E-Prix thrice. He additionally grew to become Formula E world champion in 2015-16 and has scored more than 1,000 factors within the sequence. In endurance racing, Buemi is a four-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner and a four-time FIA World Endurance champion with Toyota Gazoo Racing.

Those milestones adopted three seasons in F1 from 2009-2011, during which he raced for Toro Rosso and confronted the likes of seven-time champions Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher. It’s secure to say that Buemi is pulled from pillar to post — but his love for racing means he has no curiosity in pumping the brakes simply but.

“I’m on the road a lot because I’m basically racing in WEC, endurance racing, I’m still working for Red Bull in the simulator, Milton Keynes, and Formula E, so to combine all those activities is obviously not easy,” Buemi advised Express U.S. Sports at Paul Ricard for Formula E’s GEN4 launch. “It’s a bit of a non-stop schedule, but I love racing cars, and I feel very fortunate to be in that position.”

For Buemi, he says he’ll know the time to wind down when he’s unable to compete on the entrance. He believes he’s nonetheless obtained a few years left within the tank. The Envision Racing star is at the moment sitting ninth within the Formula E standings. “I’m 37, and hopefully I can do a few more years, I hope,” he continued. “But I think also I want to be competitive, you know, it’s not only about doing years, but you also want to be fighting at the front, and hopefully I’ll be able to do a few more years.”

Buemi’s time in Formula E

Buemi has raced in Formula E — the FIA’s premier all-electric, open-wheeled racing sequence — since its inaugural season in 2014. He has pushed FE’s GEN1, GEN2, and GEN3 automobiles — and is trying ahead to entering into the cockpit of Formula E’s spectacular GEN4 car from subsequent season.

The 2015-16 champion believes the GEN4 car will get close to competing, or exceeding, F2. The GEN4 will already boast higher acceleration by round 30 % in comparison with F1’s newest car.

“Formula E became very good over the years, where you don’t get to feel that the car behaves drastically different to a normal combustion car and the Gen 4 is even closer to what you have in F2, it’s going to be, in my opinion, in a few occasions potentially faster than F2, so somehow between an F2 and an F1 car,” Buemi stated.

‘Way more potential’

Racing is racing to Buemi. He has manned the cockpit of many various automobiles: Big and Small, handbook and computerized. “When you drive such a fast car, there isn’t a different way to drive,” he stated.

“The only main difference is obviously you’ve got no gears, you can just brake late. Accelerate, you’ve got four-wheel drive,” Buemi continued.

The new GEN4 car will maximize acceleration out of corners. “So you’ve got way more potential when you exit the corners, so driving-wise this is slightly different from all the single-seaters that are mainly two-wheel drive, but other than having to adapt to small details like that, it remains a single-seater.”
