Chase Briscoe admitted he regretted a promise he made to his son after his latest win.
Searching for his first NASCAR Cup Series win this season, Briscoe walked away from Chicagoland the victor after edging out his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell by 0.276 seconds. The win got here as a shock to the 31-year-old, who staved off Bell, regardless of his teammate charging arduous for the win.
“So, he loves Forrest Frank, the Christian singer, and he watches his YouTube videos in the morning, like we’re just having music on, right?” Briscoe started. “He always sees the drums getting played, and guitar, and stuff. And so, he saw the drums, he’s like, ‘I wanna play those.’
“You’re like, ‘We do not need a drum set.’ So, I simply pushed it off. I used to be like, ‘Well, after I win a race, you may get a drum set.’ We go to a Forrest Frank live performance, and he will get to fulfill Malachi, the drummer, and Malachi gave him his drumsticks. Then, he was like, actually all in on this drum set factor.”
After his win at Chicagoland, Briscoe stated that his son told him that he remembered the pact they made, leading the star to purchase a drumset and it was “loud as it may be.” He then was subjected to watching his son attempting to tell a joke before ending it with the classic “ba-dum-tch- drum development.
“I said, ‘This is quite the punchline,'” Briscoe continued. “It was at least a minute. Terrible. It was a horrendous joke.”
What’s more, the 31-year-old posted a video of his quickly enjoying the drums on July 7, captioning the temporary clip: “Told Brooks if I won he could get a drum set… I can already hear him telling the twins [Cooper Banks and Collins Ivy], ‘Don’t touch my drum set!'”
“I feel so American winning in the Bass Pro Shops red, white and blue car, Fourth of July weekend, 250 years,” Briscoe quipped during an on-track interview. “Man, just what an unbelievable race car. [Crew chief] James [Small] did a great job. Team did a [great] job. Honestly did not see this coming.
“I kind of felt like I was struggling in practice, in qualifying, but James and the group did a great job. Man, just so cool to get this paint scheme back in Victory Lane.”
