For 47 years, Iranian Americans have watched administration after administration attempt to speak the Islamic Republic out of what it’s.
We watched Jimmy Carter lose the Shah and gain the hostage disaster. We watched Ronald Reagan commerce arms for hostages and get lied to for his bother. We watched Bill Clinton float engagement whereas the regime blew up Khobar Towers.
We watched George W. Bush call Iran half of an axis of evil and then hand the regime a $700 billion present by eradicating Saddam from its western flank. We watched Barack Obama fly pallets of money into Tehran and faux it was diplomacy. We watched Joe Biden elevate sanctions, unfreeze billions and shrug whereas the regime funded Oct. 7.
And then we watched Donald Trump do one thing none of them did.
He hit them.

He hit their nuclear infrastructure. He reimposed the blockade. He rescinded the oil waiver. He stated out loud what each American president since Carter by no means had the braveness to say: That the Islamic Republic is a hostage-taking regime with a flag and it won’t be reformed at a negotiating desk.
For that, from a group of almost 2 million Iranian Americans, thanks.
Now end the job.
Iranian Americans usually are not a political monolith. We disagree about many issues. Some in our group will take a look at this warfare, at the destruction, the casualties, at the price of oil, at the pressure on the international economic system, and conclude it was not value it, particularly if it doesn’t ship a free Iran on the different facet.
But there’s one factor the majority of Iranians, inside and outdoors the nation, agree on: The Iranian people are deserving of the primary freedoms this regime has denied them for 47 years.

The proper to reside freely. The proper to follow the faith they need or none in any respect. The proper to like who they need. The proper to put on what they need. The proper to review what they need. The proper to say and write what they need with out concern of imprisonment, torture or death. On that, from Tehran to Tabriz to Tehrangeles, there’s no disagreement.
We know as a result of the Iranian people instructed us themselves. They got here into the streets in 2009 and 2017 and 2019 and 2022 and yearly in between, unarmed, chanting for his or her freedom.
The regime answered with bullets. Human rights teams estimate that 30,000-50,000 Iranians have been killed by their own authorities in January alone, and 1000’s more since 1979. Protesters shot in the eyes. Girls overwhelmed to death for exhibiting their hair. Teenagers hanged from cranes.

Presidents earlier than him didn’t have the imaginative and prescient, or the will, to see the Iranian people themselves as America’s most important ally on the ground. They saved in search of a reformer inside the regime. There isn’t one.
The regime nonetheless has its Basij, its Revolutionary Guard, its intelligence providers and its executioners. That means the US has to keep degrading the regime, its army, its financial lifelines and its capacity to project concern at home and overseas.
The Iranian people are nonetheless there. They are nonetheless our best allies, and our best likelihood at eradicating this regime for good.
And it’s a likelihood we must always take now, as a result of eradicating this regime is a matter of American national security. This is the regime that took our diplomats hostage in 1979; that killed 241 Marines in Beirut in 1983; that used IEDs to kill and maim American troopers in Iraq for a decade; that launched the drones and proxies which were killing Americans throughout the Middle East for 40 years.

Which brings us to the American service members now we have misplaced on this warfare: 18 killed and almost 500 wounded as of this week. Every single one of these losses is a tragedy. No American ought to ever endure a scratch, not to mention lose a life, at the fingers of this lethal regime and its lethal ideology.
Our army has spent months rigorously degrading the regime’s army functionality whereas going to extraordinary lengths to keep each American and Iranian civilian casualties as low as attainable.
