Last weekend introduced one other subway pushing, again exhibiting that the town’s management, from Mayor Zohran Mamdani on down, refuses to get clearly harmful people off the streets.

On Saturday afternoon, Zaki Smith allegedly shoved a 70-year-old girl into the trackbed on the seventh Avenue/57th Street station.

Thankfully, fellow straphangers obtained the sufferer back on the platform in time; she suffered solely a gash to her head.

Zaki Smith, 36, was charged with tried homicide for allegedly tossing an aged girl onto Midtown subway tracks in a terrifying weekend assault.

Smith’s rap sheet contains a number of felony convictions; he was out on parole on Saturday regardless of at the very least three clear violations after his release final 12 months.

He’d been in jail for a 2022 assault on a feminine guard at Rikers Island, the place he was already locked up pending trial for an additional charge: He threw the officer to the ground and beat her face with closed fists, inflicting vital accidents.

Yet he was paroled in 2025, and never thrown back in jail after one arrest for robbing an MTA worker, nor one other for promoting medication, nor a third (in June) for stealing cleansing provides from a Chelsea condo building.

Why hassle pretending that “parole,” “diversion,” or “post-release supervision” are significant classes that work higher than incarceration at attaining what the left calls “true public safety,” when blatant violation of the principles has no penalties?

For all of the whining from the town’s intensive and well-funded legal providers complicated about how the legal justice system arbitrarily vacuums up younger minority males, it takes a particular variety of individual to wind up at Rikers within the first place.

Between mental health and drug diversion courts, bail reform and the “presumption of non-incarceration and pretrial non-detention” that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his counterparts within the different boroughs pack for lunch every day, you actually should step over the road to get despatched to Rikers.

And a number of arrests — together with theft — weren’t enough to get Smith despatched back, despite the fact that he was on parole.

As an assemblyman, Mayor Mamdani voted for the “Less is More Act,” which reformed parole, making it more durable to return reoffenders to jail, and simpler for parolees to flee supervision.

The mayor, who likes to attend non secular feasts and watch soccer video games together with his buddies at Rikers, appears much less inclined to go to their victims within the hospital.

Zaki Smith had no business being on the streets, period. But it’s not value getting offended at him for being a violent predator.
