Denny Hamlin revealed that Corey Heim has finished little to cover his disdain for the No. 67 after confirming that he’ll transition to a new quantity upon turning into a full-time driver for 23XI Racing.

On Sunday, Heim — who was left unread by Bubba Wallace after poking enjoyable at his 23XI Racing teammate — claimed his first Crown Jewel win within the NASCAR Cup Series, edging out Christopher Bell and Joey Logano at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In doing so, he turned the youngest driver since Jeff Gordon in 1994 to win the Brickyard 400.

Though Heim has achieved no scarcity of success behind the wheel of the No. 67 Racing Toyota Camry XSE — with Sunday’s win marking his second of the season — Hamlin disclosed that the 24-year-old just isn’t a fan of the quantity.

On the newest episode of the ‘Actions Detrimental’ podcast, Hamlin shared that Heim will swap to the No. 35 in 2027. The switchup had been public info for some time, with NASCAR.com reporting it on May 30 previous to the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway.

As for why Heim plans to ditch the No. 67, Hamlin defined: “Because he says [67] is a stupid, goofy number.”

The 23XI co-owner, for one, didn’t see anything wrong with the No. 67. “I just like the 67,” he said. “I sort of prefer it. I do not know why. Listen, I gave [Heim] the selection. He desires 35. It’s official.”

Hamlin was more than happy to give Heim his pick of a number given how dominant he’s been thus far in the Cup Series.

“As Austin Peyton would say, ‘I think he’s gonna be something,’” Hamlin declared. “I mean, it’s the racecraft. It’s got nothing to do with the speed that he’s got. He’s got speed. All kinds of drivers can have speed, but it’s the racecraft. Well beyond his age, well beyond his experience.”

Yet Hamlin couldn’t help but poke fun at Heim, joking that the 23XI Racing development driver could take home the 2030 Rookie of the Year award at the current pace he’s on.

“If we keep operating him part-time we might make him Rookie of the Year in 2030,” Hamlin said with a wide grin.

Heim is slated to run four more races during the 2026 Cup Series campaign, including Aug. 29 at Daytona International Speedway, Sept. 6 at Darlington Raceway, Oct. 11 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Nov. 8 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

When requested what he’s hoping to realize during the latter half of this season, Heim mentioned back in May: “I had a good chat with Dave Rogers (23XI Competition Director) the other week and he was telling me that this is a notebook year for you.

“Don’t be afraid to take these bigger risks and figure out how to do the hard things and make mistakes this year so next year you’re better prepared for things like that and learn lessons.

“Not that I’m trying to go out and find the limit, but I guess not knock the wall down by any means. But, that helped me feel more confident that I can take these bigger risks and figure it out. A lot of guys I feel like in their first couple of years in Cup or O’Reilly or Truck, they find out how to push the limit and this is a year I can do that.”
