The Issue: Mayor Mamdani’s record of metropolis residents who could be subjected to his pied-à-terre tax.
The pied-à-terre tax foolishness by Mayor Mamdani that features harassing 1000’s of New Yorkers who need to show the town is their major residence shouldn’t be a shock (“Zo dismisses target practice,” July 30).
What everybody appears to be overlooking is that many of the wealthy people that Mamdani desires to overtax occupy regulated residences at below-market, protected rents. The buildings wherein these residences are situated can be value more and thus would pay increased taxes if these residences weren’t regulated.
The pointless pied-à-terre tax may not be needed if politicians just like the mayor didn’t use rent regulation as a software to get elected.
