Ford may hike prices if Trump’s auto tariffs – Business News

Ford Motor may raise prices on its new autos if President Trump’s auto tariffs proceed, in response to a memo despatched to sellers on Wednesday that was reviewed by Reuters.

The Dearborn, Michigan, automaker provided deep reductions throughout its lineup beginning earlier this month by June 2. The program will proceed, however pricing on new fashions produced in May and past may change, the memo stated.

Automotive News first reported information of the memo.

“Customers will have a lot of choices, and we have plenty of inventory to choose from through June 2. The tariff situation is dynamic and we continue to evaluate the potential impact of tariff actions,” a Ford spokesman stated, including that if prices modified on autos produced in May, clients possible wouldn’t see an increase till early July.

Both U.S. and international automakers have rushed to alleviate client issues about tariffs inflating prices at dealerships by offering price assurances and substantial reductions.

While the short-term results of tariffs have pushed up gross sales, U.S. automakers have privately warned lawmakers that they are going to be compelled to drastically raise prices if the tariffs stay in place.

“In the absence of material changes to the tariff policy as articulated to date, we anticipate the need to make vehicle pricing adjustments in the future, which is expected to happen with May production,” Ford government Andrew Frick stated within the memo.

Ford is not going to increase the sticker price on any vehicle presently in stock at Ford and Lincoln sellers, the memo stated.

An evaluation by the Center for Automotive Research printed earlier this month revealed that Trump’s 25% tariffs on automotive imports, carried out on April 3, will escalate prices for U.S. automakers by about $108 billion in 2025.

Ford is among the many best-placed automaker to climate tariffs, because it produces about 80% of its U.S.-sold autos domestically.

Earlier this week, Trump had floated the concept he was contemplating a modification to the auto-related tariffs, suggesting he may grant exemptions on levies already in place.
