Internet sensation Jake Paul has been told to be “ashamed of himself” after he announced he will fight 57-year-old former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson. Retired MMA star Michael Bisping led a chorus of naysayers who have fired back at Paul after he said he will put Tyson ‘to sleep’ in their upcoming bout.

The former YouTuber made the shock announcement on social media that he will face the former world heavyweight champion in a contest in July. After turning his attentions to a professional boxing career, Paul is now ten fights into his career, as he sets his sights on becoming a ‘world champion.

The 27 year old has never been shy about his desire for glory in the sport, with his upcoming bout against Tyson arguably representing his most significant to date. Despite there being three decades between them, the event at AT&T Stadium in Texas in the summer has received the backing of streaming giants Netflix, who will broadcast the spectacle.

Announcing the bout, Paul clearly fancied his chances of knocking out the man known as “Iron Mike”. However, his confidence irked Bisping, who scorned on Twitter/X: “You should be ashamed of yourself. And the biggest joke is you don’t even slightly realize why.”

Likewise, fellow internet star KSI took to Twitter/X as he laughed off the news by giving a disapproving verdict, saying: “50+ years old. No-one wanted this… So sad to see man,” before MMA ace Dillon Danis chimed in adding: “You’re fighting someone who was born in 1966. Have some shame.”

UFC analyst Ben Davis made fun of Paul as he posted a meme of Robert de Niro in the movie, “The Joker” as he mocked: “You’re laughing? 58-year old Mike Tyson is going to get KO’d by Jake Paul and you’re laughing,” while one fan offered: “Of course I’m going to watch Mike Tyson beat up Jake Paul.”

Moreover, one boxing fan was disgruntled by the news of the upcoming fight, saying: “I said it once and I will say it again. Jake Paul claiming to be a boxer while preying on retired combat sports athletes who have sustained a career’s worth of injuries is one of the most utterly pathetic displays of cowardice I have ever seen in my entire life.”

However, Paul believes that the fight will be a real challenge, despite the 30-year age difference between him and his opponent. He said: “My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time.”

He also posted on Twitter/X: “He’s the greatest heavyweight of all time…the most vicious KO artist ever. But I’m younger, I’m faster and I’m going to be working my ass off to get stronger. A member of my team sent me this video that Mike’s coach put up two weeks ago and asked me if I’m sure you want to do this…yes, yes I do. Heavyweight.”

Likewise, Tyson is excited about his upcoming fight with Jake Paul, saying: “I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a “kid” can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT.”
