Behold the human wreckage of the cult of variety.

The tragedy of Jason Arday — the Cambridge professor discovered lifeless of obvious suicide amid an ugly plagiarism scandal — is that he was each constructed up and destroyed by the ruthless machinery of DEI.

The academy made him into the golden boy of its philistine project of “decolonization” and gave not one thought to what the implications could be if his skinny story unraveled, because it inevitably would.

No one can deny it now: Wokeness makes false gods and actual tragedies.

Journalists discovered a story and they informed it; it was the academy and Arday’s colleagues who didn’t do their jobs.

The death of Arday shouldn’t be solely dreadful — it’s enraging.

It looks like a disaster foretold.

Indeed, some of us questioned out loud if Arday had pals round him because the media storm over his alleged fabulism grew and went international.

It was reckless within the excessive for the mental elites to fashion a new “black genius’’ and then say “Oops” when his rigorously curated legend began to fray on the seams.

They condemned him with their fawning.

This is the poison chalice of the state faith of variety.

It lays traps for the very people it celebrates.

It hand-picks members of “the oppressed’’ for ethical anointment and institutional gushing whereas leaving them open to publicity as others begin to question their credentials.

That’s the poisonous cut price of id politics: It builds teetering pedestals for ethnic-minority thinkers, which means their fall from grace is commonly twice as deadly.

And what a pedestal they made for Arday.

They worshipped him as “the best on this planet.’’

They beatified him as a black wunderkind whose very presence in a place equivalent to Cambridge would possibly help to wash away its sins of whiteness.

They canonized him as a dwelling monument to “decolonization.”

It was exactly this, their giddy, narcissistic want to fabricate a type of black savior, that made them flip a blind eye to the questionable components of Arday’s CV and life story.

They sacrificed their due diligence to the god of decolonization.

And Arday suffered, as each poster boy and sacrificial lamb of the range campaign.

Even as he gained from it — reaching the dizzying heights of a Cambridge professorship — he was being damned by it.

The basis of fantasy and sand on which his starry career was constructed was untenable; its collapse was a given.

It is a testomony to the ideological blindness of the inhabitants of our ivory towers that none of them foresaw it.

This is the place we cut to the rancid coronary heart of id politics.

I’ve seen it reported that some black thinkers had reservations about Arday, however they selected to keep them hidden.

In different phrases, their devotion to the cult of variety outweighed their concern for a pal within the grip of fabulism.

Propping up the edifice of identitarianism mattered more than guarding a colleague from a coming tempest that was all the time going to be as fierce because it was predictable.

They most well-liked to bask within the half-light of “black genius’’ fairly than look out for a black colleague.

The Faustian ruthlessness of all of it is mind-blowing.

Already, leftists are blaming the media for Arday’s death: Hacks hounded him into despair, they are saying.

I’m not having this.

The media is the one establishment on this whole tragic scandal that did its job correctly — journalists discovered a story and informed it.

It was the academy and Arday’s colleagues who didn’t do their jobs.

They didn’t prize advantage over id, and didn’t foresee the public embarrassment that will befall their falsely promoted pal.

They ignored the reality — and the media discovered it.

I and others have been arguing for years that the politics of id is a catastrophe for all, black and white alike.

White children are ignored; black children are patronized.

Whites are branded “privileged,’’ blacks as “oppressed.’’

Whites are seen because the beneficiaries of historic crimes who should atone for previous sins, blacks as historical past’s perma-victims who require the gracious serving to hand of the state.

We are all demonized or infantilized in response to the accident of our race.

Enough: Let our monument to Jason Arday be the restoration of the true ultimate of equality.

We couldn’t save him, however we will save advantage from the monstrous jaws of id.
