Kyle Busch thoughts on NASCAR’s track return – Sports News

Kyle Busch has outlined his pleasure and issues as NASCAR returns to the legendary “Big Rock” within the Xfinity and Truck Series this weekend. NASCAR formally confirmed the return of Rockingham Speedway to its 2025 schedule final 12 months, and Busch, like many others, is pumped.

Open for 60 years, Rockingham Speedway has long been a fan favourite. The 1.017-mile D-shaped oval track excited NASCAR followers, however 2004 was the final 12 months that the stock car sequence raced on the legendary track. “It’s a great place, it’s a really cool track, I enjoy that track, it’s a lot of fun. It is cool to see it come back, it seems like it’s really, really fast,” Richard Childress Racing star Busch, who  struggled final weekend at Bristol, stated on Rockingham.

The track was repaved, and Busch is hopeful that the “Big Rock” stays on NASCAR’s schedule in years to return, and probably re-enter the Cup Series. “It is cool to see it come back, it seems like it’s really, really fast, they repaved it so it’s going to be, you know, too fast in one lane, I’m afraid,” Busch added.

“I hope it spreads out, we’ll see what happens, but you know, obviously it’s cool to see that place get back on the schedule for Truck, Xfinity. Hopefully it stays.”

Kyle Larson, like Busch, can be loving the return of the historic Rockingham. “I do think it’s awesome that we’re going back to venues, kind of restoring venues like Rockingham, North Wilkesboro, all that. So yeah, I think the schedule is pretty cool. … I think the variety and for the lower series to tie in those grassroots-style fanbases is great,” the Hendrick Motorsports ace said.

Tyler Ankrum won in the Truck Series at the “Big Rock” on Friday night, with the Xfinity race scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Being in unfamiliar territory, Ankrum admitted he didn’t know where Victory Lane was. “It’s unusual — I didn’t know the place Victory Lane was at,” Ankrum stated.

“The way this day started, going a lap down and (crew chief) Mark (Hillman) making a pit call to get the track position back… Just saving fuel, man. I knew we were five (laps) short. I was hoping I had saved enough, and we did…

“I just found something there where I was pretty much lifting 60 percent down the straightaway, and I was able to draft off of (Matt) Crafton and a couple of other guys, and I was able to save that way. It’s just surreal. I feel like this is pretty much the way it went down at Kentucky in 2019.”

Ankrum took the lead from Corey Heim on Lap 172. I felt like if we had the track place we’d have been in actually fine condition from the very begin,” stated Heim, who began fifteenth and completed eighth. “Just didn’t have a good qualifying effort on my end. It was kind of an uphill battle from there all day.

“I didn’t exactly know what happened there the last 40 laps there, but we pitted, and it seems like some of the other guys didn’t run of fuel. Unfortunate. Just a weird deal in that last stage but have to be better on my part to qualify better and have the track position.”
