Say arrivederci to one more San Francisco establishment.

Corsagna Deli, an old-school, family-run Italian staple that has fed generations of Cow Hollow locals, is asking it quits after practically half a century — with its proprietor lamenting that clients would fairly line up for the most recent overpriced food fad.

The pint-sized Union St. establishment will serve its remaining sandwiches on Oct. 2, in line with a social media announcement posted by the business.

Corsagna’s closure is the most recent on a checklist of unhappy departures from the City by the Bay — Fisherman’s Wharf, as soon as a high vacationer attraction within the metropolis, is reeling from the most recent information that the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum will quickly shutter, after six many years. Downtown, long-running dim sum palace Yank Sing will quickly depart their flagship location.

Angie Denardo, the supervisor at Corsagna, lamented the growing trend in direction of caring more about viral hype than old school high quality and authenticity — which some imagine might have helped squeeze out the neighborhood spot.

“Waiting in line for an overpriced item is trendy,” Denardo, whose household has owned the store for generations, informed SFGATE. “I don’t know if people really value small family spaces anymore. Now it’s more about trends.”

For 46 years, the counter served up beloved staples just like the “Mr. Italiana” — a stack of salami, coppa, mortadella, and provolone — alongside Dutch crunch rolls, scorching pesto paninis, and traditional deli sides.

“We are so grateful for the many years you allowed us to serve you, share conversations, and be a small part of your lives our community,” the farewell post on Instagram learn. “Thank you for every visit, every conversation, and all the memories. We will truly miss you.”

Dutch-crushed followers lined up just about to show their appreciation for the neighborhood mainstay — which survived many years of tumultous change in one of the world’s costliest cities.

“I used to have a flower shop down the street from here and I loved coming here for lunch,” the previous proprietor of one other shuttered native business mentioned on social media. “You will be missed!”

“So sad to see,” mentioned one other fan, “But grateful for the great sandwiches over the years.” In addition to a altering clientele, rising working prices and a slowing business finally caught up with the tiny store.

“The kids went away to college, the economy changed, our clientele has shifted, and so everything just kind of created this little perfect storm of the universe being like, ‘OK, maybe now is a good time to say goodbye,’” Denardo informed SFGATE.

Corsagna’s roots run deep in Cow Hollow. In the 1970’s, Denardo’s grandfather, Egidio Giampaoli, launched an Italian bakery within the storefront.

By 1980, Denardo’s mom took the reins and pivoted in direction of sandwiches, after noticing a demand.

Denardo recalled virtually growing up there together with her sister, earlier than in the end stepping in to run the show as an grownup.

“I was 10 months old when my mom opened, so it’s incredibly emotional,” Denardo informed the outlet.

The deli will host a farewell sendoff on Oct. 2 — inviting clients to say goodbye with drinks and light-weight bites.
