It was insanity on the Madhouse over the weekend on the historic Bowman Gray Stadium – home of the 2025 Cook Out 500 -between Zach Staley and Brandon Alverson at the Hayes Jewelers 200 Street Stock Car race.
Staley (No. 7) and Alverson (No. 82), who finished 14th and 15th respectively, jawed all race in the lower-level NASCAR contest. In its aftermath, Staley nicked the front of Alverson’s before the No. 82 rammed into the No. 7 head-on.

At Bowman Gray, the No. 82 driver eventually made his way out of the car, still donning his helmet, to target his opponent as a massive scrap on the ground ensued, entirely surrounded by a sea of security.
“Staley’s out of the car! Staley’s out of the car! He falls out of the car,” the NASCAR broadcast bellowed. “He’s got the helmet off. Open face, gloves off! [Alverson] is trying to get out of the car ferociously. A takedown! They’re trying to restrain an absolutely enraged Zach Staley.”
The Madhouse, an endearing venue founded in 1947, is still one of American racing’s most popular destinations despite not having hosted a Cup Series race in over 50 years.
Still, the 2025 Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium marked the venue’s first NASCAR-sanctioned race since 1971. The preseason contest, serving as the warmup to the Daytona 500, attracted the biggest drivers in the circuit.
Chase Elliott walked away victorious after a busy weekend of qualifiers, narrowly besting Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin.Joey Logano and Bubba Wallace rounded out the top five.
