Ford has confirmed the exact date when it will axe one of Britons’ most beloved cars. The vehicle is owned by more than 1.3 million motorists. The US firm is switching to EV technology and has been scrapping some of its combustion-engine model names in recent years. The Mondeo, for instance, was dumped in 2022.

A year later, the S-Max and Galaxy MPVs were discontinued. In July 2023, the Fiesta went after 22 million sales globally. This included 4.8million in the UK. The vehicle was the country’s best-selling car at the time. Now, the production of the Ford Focus is set to cease.

“The Focus has been an important part of the Ford family in Europe for over 20 years, and we are deeply grateful for the loyalty and passion our customers have shown for this iconic vehicle,” a Ford spokesperson said.

“We remain committed to serving our Focus customers with ongoing service, parts, and support.”

There are no plans for a direct successor to the model, the MailOnline reports.

Customers can still order a Focus for a period.

The end of manufacturing at Ford’s Saarlouis plant in Germany is timed for November.

A new Focus can then be bought for some time after that from the firm’s remaining inventory.

WhatCar? has described the Focus as “the best driver’s car in the family hatchback class, with decent practicality”.

The magazine added: “As SUVs become ever more popular, the Ford Focus and other traditional family hatchbacks face a serious challenge to retain sizeable share of the market.

“Even so, the Focus still does well in the sales charts, and that owes a lot to perhaps its greatest asset: fun handling.”

According to Ford Authority, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) data suggested Ford Focus ranked as the third best-selling used vehicle in the UK in Q2 2024 with 59,042 sales.

This placed it behind the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa only.
