Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested in Texas on Friday night. According to jail records from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the 5-foot-11 NFL player is facing a charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding breathing or circulation.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred on Friday. Worthy’s jail records indicate an “ASSAULT FAM/HOUSE MEM IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULAT” charge, which is classified as a third-degree felony offense in Texas. The offense is “committed by intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth.”
In response to Worthy’s arrest, the Chiefs stated to NFL insider Tom Pelissero: “We are aware and gathering information,” Express U.S. Sports has contacted the Chiefs for further comment. Worthy recently completed an impressive rookie season in Kansas City.
The former Texas Longhorns star reached up 638 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 59 catches. He also scored three TDs in the run game, demonstrating his versatility as a wideout.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Chiefs have seen a promising rookie arrested following their debut NFL season. In 2024, wide receiver Rashee Rice was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Texas that resulted in injuries to four people during the offseason.
Despite swirling rumors of a hefty suspension, Rice suited up for the Kansas City Chiefs on Opening Night. However, his 2024 season was cut short by a knee injury in September after only four games, paving the way for Worthy’s increased role in his first year.
Rice could still face punishment from the NFL post-injury, though. Meanwhile, Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach, raved about Worthy’s impressive debut season at the combine. “We learned Xavier is more than a deep threat,” elaborated Reid.
“He also has the ability to do that and we probably could have tapped into that even more. I’m not sure we’ve tapped that out. I think there’s more, and that’s exciting.”
The Chiefs were on the cusp of making history with a Super Bowl three-peat following two consecutive championships in the Mahomes era. They boasted a stellar 15-2 regular season and advanced to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, only to fall short against the Philadelphia Eagles, who clinched victory with a 40-22 scoreline.
