Kyle Larson shows true colors as he denies NASCAR – Sports News
During an interview with The Athletic, Larson was requested what people typically get incorrect about him. For Larson, there was just one reply, as he’s grown drained of defending himself with regards to justifying his love for NASCAR.
“People back in the day used to get wrong that I didn’t care about NASCAR,” Larson mentioned. “I still think people think, ‘Oh, I’m just doing this for the money and if I had a choice, I’d be racing sprint cars all the time.’
“That actually bugs me, as a result of it isn’t in regards to the money. I wouldn’t do that if I didn’t find it irresistible, ? So I do love this. I want followers would understand that. And I really feel like they’ve over time, however not all of them, and also you’re by no means going to persuade everyone.”
Larson just loves racing, so much so that he’s willing to sacrifice a $1 million prize in order to get more practice before the Indy 500. The NASCAR All-Star Race takes place at North Wilkesboro Speedway on Sunday night, but Larson is set to start dead last due to his commitments.
The No. 5 team will not compete in Saturday’s heat race, and while he will still be allowed to race on Sunday, he will be at the back due to skipping qualifying and Friday’s practice. Larson will be in Indianapolis until Sunday, as he doesn’t just want to participate in the ‘double,’ he wants to try and win at Indianapolis and Charlotte on the same day.
Only four drivers in history have completed the ‘double’ as Larson is set to join an exclusive list. Providing his attempt isn’t interrupted for the second year running, Larson will join John Andretti, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon, and Kurt Busch as the only drivers to run the two premier races on the same day.

Larson also attempted to set the record straight elsewhere, after claiming that he was a better driver than four-time Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen. Larson claims that his comments were exaggerated as fans thought he was suggesting that he was the best driver in the world, and he attempted to clarify his statement.
“People act like I’m the one who mentioned I’m the best race car driver on the planet,” Larson told The Athletic. “I by no means mentioned that. I simply mentioned I’m a higher all-around driver than Max Verstappen.
“And they took that as I said, ‘I’m the greatest in the world.’ Because for some reason, Max is considered the greatest in the world. So it’s funny. I mean, I expect it when I have a crash or something. But it’s fine.”
