New speed limit suggestions that could see 10mph | Tech News

Campaigners have referred to as for the UK to radically cut its speed limits with some roads lowered to only 10mph. The Road Safety Foundation (RSF) has steered a main discount in city speed limits with the introduction of a new cap. Under the suggestion, roads constructed close to colleges, hospitals and busy residential areas could be slashed from 20mph or 30mph to only 10mph. 

The RSF has additionally steered that single-seed limits on single carriageways and nation roads needs to be up to date. It believes that vehicles needs to be going a whopping 40mph slower, down from the present limit of 60mph to only 20mph. Dr Suzy Charman, Executive Director of the RSF, steered that speed needed to be cut till infrastructure catches up.   

Speaking to The Times, De Suzy mentioned: “We have a clear idea of the speeds [that] would be required to prevent most road deaths and serious injuries on Britain’s roads.

“We are not saying that all speeds or speed limits should be set to these speeds, rather that infrastructure needs to be improved or speeds reduced to ensure travelled speeds are better aligned with human tolerances to crash forces.”

However, the RSF conceded that areas would stay untouched by their radical suggestions. 

30mph would nonetheless be permitted on some roads with no interplay between autos and pedestrians or cyclists. 

Meanwhile, they mentioned that larger speed limits could proceed on twin carriageways and motorways.

But, this could solely be on the idea that roads have been discovered to have ample roadside infrastructure and full segregation away from pedestrians and cyclists.

The Road Safety Foundation harassed the proposals would help obtain their ‘Vision Zero’ objective of fully eliminating all deaths and severe accidents behind the wheel. 

It wouldn’t be the primary time that UK speed limits have been up to date with Wales already attempting out obligatory 20mph roads.

However, Hugh Bladon, a spokesperson for the Alliance of British Drivers, mentioned the suggestion was ”so ridiculous it’s merely laughable”.

He defined: “If you ban all motorised transport you might reduce deaths and injury a bit, but we should remember that more people were being killed and injured in the days before motorised transport, by horses and their carriages.”
