“Honestly, I don’t really think about it. I just want to race and do a good job. I think if you do a good job, that takes care of the legacy.”

“But I think what gave me confidence to do it is that I do race a lot of different types of cars and I feel like I’ve adapted well to all of them.

“So it’s just another race car at a track that I’ve raced at, and others have done it, so I felt like I could do it. This year I’ve been more confident and prepared for the event second time around.”

“I think more probably mentally,” he says of the problem. “I’ve ran the 600 a number of times, and I feel like that track is just really bumpy and rough. Physically that gets to you, but mentally, that race can be upwards of five hours, sometimes.

“The Indy 500, I felt last year, it went by pretty fast. 500 miles but the cars are so fast, the race went by pretty quickly and I felt fine in there.

“Whereas in the past, the 600 has felt more challenging both phsyically and mentally. When you stack that on top of a few hours behind the wheel already? That’s just going to make it even harder. But I like that challenge at the same time.”

“It’s tough to pick out a lot of things while I’m currently a full-time NASCAR guy, but I think, for me, I’ve been to Australia and raced Sprint Cars and stuff. I’d love to go to Australia and run a Supercar. I’d say that’s kind of next on my near future radar.”

“But I think someday when I’m done being a full-time racer, I’d love to do Le Mans. I even look forward to the day I can run Sprint Car races that I don’t get to run currently because they’re on the weekends.

“And I’m sure there’s a lot more other stuff out there that I don’t even know about that hopefully I get the chance to do.”

For now, it’s simply two more races within the center of an 80-90 race season through which Larson is continually going fast. At 32 years outdated, he needs to take advantage of of that for as long as he can.

“Definitely full on! I’m in a car a lot, but it’s all I know. I don’t know how long I’ll continue to do that many races a year, but I just enjoy it.

“I feel like I’m in the prime of my career right now at the age I’m at. I want to take advantage of those years and try to do a good job.”
