Last month, Gov. Kathy Hochul attacked Republicans for his or her finances bill that goals to rein in wasteful and fraudulent federal spending. “I believe that we should try to prevent our constituents from dying,” she declared.

Now, simply two weeks later, New Yorkers have proof that these phrases from Hochul’s lips are a merciless lie.

My coronary heart shatters for our state: Hochul’s gutless silence on the so-called assisted suicide bill handed by Albany’s far-left Democrats isn’t simply cowardice; it’s a betrayal of each New Yorker clinging to hope, a dagger within the backs of the weak she swore to guard.

In the final days of this 12 months’s legislative session, New York state Senate Democrats pressured by way of a despicable measure, in a 35-27 vote, empowering docs to prescribe deadly medication to the terminally sick.

This isn’t “dignity” or “choice,” however a death sentence cloaked in deception, telling our aged, our disabled and our sick that their lives aren’t value combating for.

The bill now sits on Hochul’s desk, and the place is she?

Hiding. Silent. Dodging with a spineless “she’ll review the legislation” assertion from her workforce.

All whereas households of all political and religious backgrounds, all throughout New York, weep on the thought of our state permitting firms to revenue off death.

Hochul’s hypocrisy is aware of no bounds. New York ranks lifeless final in entry to palliative care, a compassionate lifeline that eases struggling and restores dignity for the terminally sick.

Palliative care envelops sufferers in holistic help to handle ache and handle emotional and religious wants, and it helps households navigate the unthinkable.

It’s docs and nurses sitting bedside, listening to fears and crafting plans that honor life. It’s the hand squeezed during a sleepless evening, the reassurance that no one faces the tip alone.

Yet in Hochul’s New York, solely a fraction of those that need palliative companies can entry them — leaving the struggling to beg for consolation whereas leftist Democrats below her watch push a tradition of death and despair.

This failure compounds a broader disaster attributable to Kathy Hochul’s nugatory management.

One in 5 New Yorkers battles mental sickness yearly, and a whole bunch of hundreds go untreated. Those who reside with disabilities are crushed by a merciless bureaucratic maze, worsened by Hochul’s heartless overhaul of the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program, which put the needs of politically related contractors over the wants of struggling households and caregivers.

Again and again, her insurance policies destroy hope for these in need — and but she stands mute and inept as her social gathering peddles a bill that whispers “Give up” to a depressed veteran, tells a grandmother with most cancers “You’re a burden” and screams to a disabled New Yorker, “Your life isn’t worth saving.”

It’s anti-human, it’s anti-American, and it’s a betrayal of the values that bind us as New Yorkers.

Hochul’s silence right here speaks volumes, and it isn’t indecision however complicity, trading weak lives for political factors along with her far-left Democrat base.

New Yorkers are heartbroken and livid. Under Hochul’s catastrophic reign, crime surges, prices crush households, corruption festers — and now the sanctity of life itself is below assault.

People are fleeing to Florida and different states, pushed out by the worst governor in America who fails them at each flip.

Hochul has the ability to veto this ethical travesty. She may champion life by investing in palliative care that wraps the struggling in dignity and love.

Instead, her silence screams give up.

I gained’t keep silent. My coronary heart burns for the mom praying for one more day along with her baby, for the disabled New Yorker combating for respect, for each soul this bill would discard.

New York wants actual management — sturdy palliative-care packages, accessible mental-health companies and dignified help for the disabled — not a state-encouraged push towards the grave.

In 2026, New Yorkers will reject this failed governor on the poll box and restore principled management that cherishes each life.

Kathy Hochul, the clock is ticking. Veto this bill otherwise you’ll be remembered because the governor who actually let hope die.

New Yorkers are watching — and we gained’t neglect.

Republican Elise Stefanik represents New York’s twenty first District in Congress.
