Empty watchtower

Was it actually a good concept to fire over 2,000 prison guards with no method to change them (“NY’s Prison Crisis Isn’t Over,” Editorial, March 12)?

It’s not precisely a sought-after job, and their issues over working situations have been affordable. Instead of giving them what they requested for and retaining them on the job, now what? Bring within the National Guard?

Aren’t they already on the subways? It appears Gov. Hochul has just one resolution for every little thing: budget-busting additional time pay and the National Guard.

Menendez distress

I used to be relieved to learn that Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman has determined to oppose reconsidering the Menendez brothers’ sentence (“Bro way, guys,” March 11).

Given his status as a competent former assistant US lawyer, I had little doubt he would see by way of the smokescreen created by the brothers and their misguided supporters.

However, I’m upset that Hochman left the door open for reconsideration if the brothers “come clean” after a long time of lies. They dedicated a horrendous crime and must be held accountable. The Menendez brothers ought to serve their full prison sentence — for all times.

Tesla reversal

Tesla vehicles have been as soon as the largest rage in liberal enclaves like San Francisco and New York City (“Teslas on fire in Seattle,” March 12).

The vehicles current no fuel issues (or guilt) and charging them was the best factor ever and protected for the surroundings. Everyone wished a Tesla and Elon Musk was a hero.

Now, following Elon Musk’s political transformation, people are burning charging stations, attacking Tesla showrooms and destroying vehicles. Musk has change into a deeply polarizing determine and extensively unpopular.

Well, the way in which I see it, the Democrats are a get together of haters and hypocrites. They purchased the vehicles, bear in mind?

Climate realities

I used to be troubled by the current article quoting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s dismissal of climate preparedness as “climate change crap” (“No climate ‘crap’: Heg,” March 10).

He appears unaware of the huge burden climate-driven excessive climate is putting on his division’s price range.

The Pentagon has already spent over $11 billion rebuilding bases broken by hurricanes and typhoons. These are documented financial impacts that come straight out of the Department of Defense price range. Rising sea ranges pose further dangers.

The National Defense Strategy explicitly acknowledges climate change as a security problem. Military planners aren’t politicians; they’re responding to real-world knowledge to guard the nation.

When the secretary of protection dismisses climate preparedness as “crap,” he isn’t simply ignoring science — he’s ignoring strategic actuality and placing our navy, our bases and our national security at pointless risk.

Frederick Hewett, Cambridge, Mass.

Crime softies

I couldn’t agree more along with your editorial on Bronx DA Darcel Clark’s method to prison justice (“Darcel Clark’s Dim Denial,” March 13).

You may simply as simply substitute Alvin Bragg or another liberal district lawyer for Clark. Their philosophy solely ends in more crime within the communities they’re meant to serve.

Mike Klarman, Branford, Conn.
