Maine may not be New York — but at least it has – Latest News
Yes, Maine is great, but . . .
Despite the opinions of our editors, I’ve returned. I’m back.
Listen, I needed a vacation. Even my laptop was drained of me. Being patriotic, it being July 4, I went to re-live the place our beloved nation started. I schlepped to Maine.
Vacationland
Why Maine? Because my ceaselessly buddies whose ancestors — its earliest settlers — are honored within the state’s museum and in whose authentic farmhouse I’ve stayed are there. What it was like when great great great grandma Ballard practiced midwifery there within the 1600s and 1700s, who is aware of. What it’s like now, I do know.
Nobody in that state blows their Social Security on wardrobe. A potpourri of pensioners, the average age is deceased. Gents need a divining rod to find their non-public components since most stomachs reached to Iowa. And if ever I see one other lobster I’ll crack it over the pinnacle of Elon Musk.
Maine has air. Sky. Birds. Marshes. Miles of white sand seashores. Bright blue sky. Puffy fluffy white clouds. Celebs from that state embody our VP in 1861 Hannibal Hamlin. Also Althea Quimby who ran a temperance operation. Also Anna Kendrick and soccer participant Colby Quiñones. Plus others who’re much less well-known.
Plus for example, it’s not Arizona. The northeasternest state’s chook is the black capped chickadee. There’s lighthouses in wherever’s West Quoddy Head, rocky shoreline, maritime historical past, the top of the Appalachian Trail, and one thing referred to as the white Pine Cone flower which completely no one sends anyone for any individual’s birthday.
Sun & scoops
A preferred metropolis is Bangor, 31,000 population. One physician’s ready room in NYC has more. Outdoor ice cream stands the place people collect at night time for scoops. I seemed for scoops, but mine have been for print.
Songs exist extolling this state’s glories. Like one everyone knows and hum — “The Reach” written by Dan Fogelberg. Forget making an attempt to listen to this at the Met. BUT — it has patriotism. One well-known vacationer space is Old Orchard Beach. Go alongside its predominant drag. Every home, each fronting the roadway with its back dealing with the ocean, flew the American flag. It’s a metropolis ordinance.
The space started earlier than big-time electrical energy. Thus, fronting every home is a phone pole. Every one flew an American flag.
New York will at all times be best
So: Let that large mouth jig elsewhere — not New York the place he’s hustling to be mayor, not within the best nation that God created — let this nothing friggin’ no one dance in Russia, Syria, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela. Let him group up with that feminine bartender, enable Bernie Sanders to spit into the digital camera, have Donald stuff him into the nineteenth gap.

Let this zero whom no one heard of earlier than inform us how to clean the streets, free up the roadways, reinforce bridges and highways, accumulate rubbish, clear snow, decrease taxes, show how to save lots of town, take away our bodies sleeping on sidewalks, reopen retailers, clean the subways, combat hate, stop with casinos and low-cost semi-legal retailers, help cops, jail what DA Bragg frees.
And if on the lookout for youth, no downside the Menendez brothers may quickly be obtainable. Or, recent from kindergarten, grab Buttigieg whose final job was mayor of a city so small that more people are in my rest room. He needs to be president. His husband — met through a relationship app — instructed me: “In the White House we’ll play loud music every day.”
BUT — and right here’s the massive but — Maine has patriotism.
So would I depart NYC and transfer there? What’re you — nuts?
