F1 teams are set to reevaluate the prices related to protests and investigations following a backlash from Mercedes and McLaren in opposition to Red Bull’s grievances.

Both Zak Brown and Toto Wolff have been outspoken of their need to overhaul the present protest system, with Wolff notably incensed after an attempt was made to overturn George Russell’s race win.

Presently, teams should fork over a refundable $2,350 for a protest or a proper of review, whereas lodging an appeal requires a $7,000 payment, which is returned if the appeal is profitable.

Both Brown and Wolff are advocating for a substantial hike in these charges. Although Red Bull didn’t formally problem the FIA relating to the legality of McLaren’s 2025 car, they had been implicated in rumors that Brown’s workforce is likely to be using illicit strategies to cool their tires, comparable to injecting them with a substance.

Red Bull escalated issues with George Russell and Mercedes when, after Russell’s victory over Max Verstappen on the Canadian Grand Prix, Christian Horner spearheaded a protest regarding Russell’s conduct behind the protection car, which the FIA in the end dismissed.

In response to the protest determination, Wolff expressed his frustration to Sky Sports F1: “First of all, it took team Red Bull Racing two hours before they launched the protest, so that was in their doing.

“You know, truthfully, it is so petty and so small. They’ve finished it in Miami. Now they launched two protests.

“They took one back because it was ridiculous. They come up with some weird clauses, what they call clauses.”

“I guess the FIA needs to look at that because it’s so far-fetched it was rejected. You know, you race, you win, and you lose on track. That was a fair victory for us, like so many they had in the past. And it’s just embarrassing.”

The Mercedes workforce principal later joined Brown in calling for larger protest charges to deter frivolous challenges. After the newest F1 Commission assembly earlier than the Belgian Grand Prix, there’s discuss of revamping the system.

“It was agreed that the deposit fees for protests, appeals and right of reviews should be evaluated with a view to those fees being adjusted,” an FIA report said. “The introduction of a fee for investigations was also discussed.”
