Dad regrets decision to hand over son’s HR ball in | Sports News

The father of a younger boy who had a home run ball snatched from him during a latest Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins recreation by an unruly fan has spoken out.

During a match in Miami, Phillies star Harrison Bader hit a home run to the left subject seats. Drew Feltwell caught the ball and handed it to his son, Lincoln. After Feltwell’s interplay along with his son, a lady approached the household and instructed the elder Feltwell, “You took it from me. It was in my hand,” in accordance to footage recorded by followers.

Feltwell ultimately took the ball back from his son and gave it to her to defuse the state of affairs. In an interview with NBC10 Philadelphia, Feltwell recounted the incident and shared his ideas on the state of affairs involving him, his son, and the disruptive fan. “She definitely scurried on over. And as she reached for my arm, she just yelled in my ear, ‘That’s my ball.’ Like super loud. I jumped out of my skin,” he remembered, experiences the Mirror US.

“A lot, a lot of eyes on us by that time. And the ball was already in his glove and she just wouldn’t stop. And I mean, I’m literally leaning back as she’s in my face, yelling and yelling and yelling. And I pretty much just wanted her to go away. And because I had a fork in the road, either do something I was probably going to regret or be a dad and show him how to de-escalate the situation. So that’s where I went.”

Despite calming the state of affairs down, Feltwell confessed that he felt regret for handing his son’s ball over to the aggressive fan. “Yeah, like I said, that was what we were there for,” he went on.

“We were there to get a home run ball. So I thought I had accomplished this great thing and putting it in his glove meant a lot.

“And she was simply so adamant and loud and yelling and protracted. And I simply did not need to deal with it anymore. You know, there was lots of of people, you recognize, simply staring and like I mentioned, she was very close and I’m dad of the household, so I did not need to do one thing I remorse. And that was the selection I made is to simply hand the ball back and inform her, go away.”

Ultimately, things worked out positively for Feltwell and his family as players from both teams contacted the family to make sure they could enjoy the remainder of the game. At one point, a Marlins representative approached Lincoln a few innings later and presented him with a “goodie bag” filled with team merchandise and baseballs, saying: “I noticed what occurred, it wasn’t proper” and asking him if he was OK. What’s more, Bader, the Phillies star, personally met up with the family after the game to check in and ensure they were all right.

Lincoln was gifted a signed bat, calling attention to the boy’s birthday, which was shared on the Phillies broadcast.

In the end, the youngster accepted what happened and has tried to move on, despite how the day panned out.

“I’m blissful that I acquired to get one thing else. Yeah, it was very, very enjoyable getting to meet Bader,” Lincoln defined.
