Ryan Blaney opens up on radio exchange with nephew – Sports News
For the second straight race, Ryan Blaney crossed the road in fourth within the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday. However, for the 2023 champion, this Bass Pro Shops Night Race might be remembered not for his outcome however for a hilarious impromptu radio exchange between him and his nephew.
With the race underneath warning and with Blaney within the No. 12 Team Penske Ford operating fourth with 187 laps to go, all of a sudden, a younger boy may very well be heard over his workforce radio. “Hi Uncle Ryan,” the boy, who Blaney later recognized as his sister Emma’s four-year-old son, Bodie, stated. “Go Ryan. Win this race. Win this race.”
Clearly chuckling, Blaney rapidly replied, “Mom. Get Bodie off the scanner,” going on so as to add, “He found (his wife) Gianna’s scanner in the bus. Found out how to turn it on. Pretty smart.”
For the 31-year-old, this sudden motivational speech was a welcome distraction during an in any other case uninteresting second within the remaining Round of 16 race, which marked the top of the highway for Alex Bowman, Austin Dillon, Shane van Gisbergen, and Josh Berry within the Playoffs.
That being stated, Blaney has since admitted that they might need to look into altering Gianna’s scanner to keep away from a repeat incident at a much less opportune second down the road.

I thought it was an obsolete button to where they have that as far as they can make the button not work if you push it. But apparently it does.
“And the four-year-old was talking to me before the race. He’s like, ‘What’s that with Aunt Gianna’s name on it? What’s that thing?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, it’s a radio to where Aunt Gianna can listen to my racing and stuff like that.’ He’s like, ‘Oh, like a walkie-talkie.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, kind of like a walkie-talkie.’
“And I guess he took that and remembered it. And smart kid, man, figured out, turned it on, pushed the button, gave me a little bit of motivation. And that was pretty cool.”
