Bill Simmons has vehemently defended Jimmy Kimmel after his show was suspended this week after his feedback on Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump, the place he instructed a MAGA supporter had been the shooter.

Kimmel has long been crucial of Trump, and blamed the President’s supporters as he spoke on Kirk’s assassination on his show this week – pointing the finger at MAGA, regardless of proof suggesting the opposite.

He stated: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the the MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

The following day, Disney had made the call to drag his show off the air indefinitely, coming after Trump-appointed FCC Chairman Brenden Carr demanded that they take motion.

Simmons has defended Kimmel, his long-term buddy, hoping ABC reverses their ‘cowardly’ determination, earlier than stating his perception that Kimmel does need the community and may begin his own show.

Speaking on his self-named podcast, he stated: “What we learned from all of this stuff was that the affiliates and these companies, there’s this merger, you have Nexstar merging with Tegna, two companies that I’ve put zero thought in over the years, but apparently they wanna merge.

“They need FCC approval. The FCC, the man who runs it appointed by Trump… he sees an alternative to leverage some stuff they need to approve the merger,” stated Simmons, who shares an agent with Kimmel in James “Baby Doll” Dixon. “So now you begin leveraging and leveraging. And for those who wanna get rid of a show like Jimmy’s show, that is the second to do it.”

Simmons then highlighted reports that it had been pressure from the Trump organization on to Disney and ABC that left them needing to make some kind of move.

He said: “And that’s why this isn’t cancel tradition. This is censorship, which is a utterly totally different scenario.”

The Ringer CEO then went on to insinuate he believes Kimmel does not need Disney and ABC for his show to be successful.

He added: “The platform isn’t ABC, it’s not a late night time show that Jimmy is fortunate enough to host, although he’s fortunate. He can nonetheless have that platform wherever he desires as a result of he’s the platform. And that’s the distinction on this.
