The Washington Post’s newsroom layoffs final week introduced a flood of media hate for Jeff Bezos, however they ought to have impressed a second of reckoning for the woke left who went so loopy on Bezos’ dime whereas giving readers none of the content material they wished to learn.

When he purchased the newspaper, the Amazon billionaire was hailed as the savior of a grand previous establishment that had fallen on exhausting instances.

He supplied not simply a lifeline, however a big quantity of investment to increase the position and attain of the paper, which had been lapped by newer rivals in overlaying the nation’s capital.

Instead of seeing this chance as a kick in the pants, motivating higher protection of the issues that curiosity Washington readers, the Post leaned exhausting into woke, race-focused, pro-transgender, anti-Trump protection.

Bezos gave them a likelihood to reset.

Instead, they grew to become the “Democracy dies in darkness” newspaper on each final web page.

No part was secure from the absurdity: Consider, for instance, 2021’s ridiculous deep-dive function story on the racist implications of birdwatching.

Because some birds are named after people who owned slaves, you see.

So it’s racist.

Washington, the title of each the metropolis and the paper, is problematic, the Woke Post advised us.

So are the many native monuments and statues constructed to honor America’s biggest historic figures — the very factor that brings vacationers our manner.

Perhaps jealous of The New York Times’ 1619 project, The Post pursued its own TEMU model for years.

Its staffers coated such deeply important questions as whether or not it was sexist to dislike the all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot, or racist to like Dungeons & Dragons.

They employed online hit-job artist Taylor Lorenz and a host of woke scold writers throughout all topics.

Nowhere was this more obvious than in the sections that had nothing in any respect to do with politics — notably the sports activities pages.

The Post’s sports activities part was as soon as legendary, with names like Shirley Povich, Tony Kornheiser, Michael Wilbon, Sally Jenkins and Tom Boswell drawing readers with their energetic protection.

Yet the very paper that offered tens of millions of copies on the back of Kornheiser’s cocky “bandwagon” columns boosting the ’90s-era Washington Redskins grew to become a chiding, lecturing nag in the arms of a youthful technology.

The death of George Floyd meant only one factor for them: Here’s our manner to get rid of our native soccer crew’s “racist” title.

Instead of overlaying the franchises locals love as sports activities, they coated them as politics.

So when the NHL’s Alexander Ovechkin was using towards his historic purpose efficiency for the Capitals, the huge query for the Post was: Is it problematic to root for a Russian, given the struggle in Ukraine?

The crowds cheering him on definitely didn’t really feel that manner, however the metropolis’s largest paper clearly did.

Maybe that’s why the crowds stopped subscribing.

There’s a motive the sports activities employees’s most glowing protection was reserved for trans athletes and for Colin Kaepernick and Megan Rapinoe.

It’s as a result of the woke left’s highest goal is to inject divisive politics into every part — particularly into the few remaining issues that unite us.

In the run-up to the Super Bowl, the Post was doing its regular schtick: ignoring the storylines people care about to as an alternative cowl issues that non-sports followers suppose it’s best to care about.

Such as Excel-spreadsheeting competitions. Really.

It isn’t all the time true that going woke makes you go broke.

But one space wherein that chestnut does apply is the case of a newspaper that’s supposed to appeal to a huge viewers in a main metropolis, and as an alternative solely speaks to those that need fixed lectures on the new factor that’s racist, sexist or problematic.

You don’t lose $100 million in a single 12 months by giving people the tales they need or need to learn.

Media critics tried to blame the Post’s losses on Bezos and his resolution to spike a 2024 endorsement of Kamala Harris.

But that’s ignoring the fact.

As acid-tongued social critic David Burge places it, the goal of the woke left is to “target a respected institution, kill & clean it,” and “wear it as a skin suit, while demanding respect.”

The woke left tried to do this to DC’s largest newspaper.

And not even one of the world’s largest billionaires was keen to keep lighting money on fire to help this quantity of loopy.

There are markets for every part. The founder of Amazon, of all people, is aware of that.

But there’s no great market for the wokeness The Washington Post was promoting.

For that information, America needs to be grateful.
