Coco Gauff loses head at coach mid-match as 6 | Sports News

Coco Gauff could not comprise her frustrations in her loss to Elina Svitolina. 

Throughout their matchup, Gauff and Svitolina went back and forth. Eventually, the Ukrainian broke by and defeated the American star 6-4, 6(13) – 7(15), 6-4, although what didn’t help Gauff was that her double-fault points had returned to plague her. 

After a double fault within the second set to present Svitolina a 30-15 lead, it appeared as if Gauff let her frustrations get the higher of her as she was overheard loudly proclaiming her points, seemingly at Gavin MacMillan, her biomechanics coach, who was introduced onto her staff to improve her serve.

Walking to the facet, cameras caught the American saying, “I’ve been doing everything you’ve wanted for the last six months, and it’s not gotten better at all, bro.” 

This is simply the newest chapter in Gauff’s e book of struggles along with her serve all through the years. In October 2025, Gauff defined that she studied how Djokovic and Sabalenka tinkered with their serves to get them proper, which is what the American hopes to do sooner or later.

“I was looking at Novak and he’s someone who didn’t have as great of a serve in the beginning of his career, obviously different issue than me, but he just wasn’t serving as strong,” Gauff mentioned whereas talking to The National. 

“And he made that change and has gone on to obviously be Novak Djokovic. And even at that time, he was still like a successful player. So yeah, I’ve drawn on those experiences. And obviously Aryna and Venus and those who’ve done those changes.”

She added: “So yeah, just seeing that other players, it’s just inspiring knowing tennis is won by small margins and those little differences make a difference. And I know if I want to get to the scale that I want to get to, I have to make those changes.”

As for Svitolina, she gave her flowers to Gauff for how she competed, regardless of her points serving. “Coco is such a big fighter. I was expecting she would come back in the match,” she said, per the Tennis Gazette. “She has won so many big battles and big tournaments. 

“I had to keep fighting and pushing. I was just trying to win that match, and I’m very pleased with the fight and win today.” 

She also said: “To be honest, I am speechless after that fight out there. I was playing like there was no tomorrow, just trying to put in all the effort. Thank you so much for all your support. It’s really special to be again in the final after a few years and to get that beautiful trophy.” Svitolina will play Jessica Pegula within the closing.
