United Airlines is raising checked bag fees by $10 to $50 for vacationers buying tickets beginning Friday, the company confirmed to Fox Business on Thursday.

The increase, which the airline mentioned marks its first bag payment hike in two years, comes after JetBlue introduced related measures in late March

Customers flying within the US, Mexico, Canada and Latin America can anticipate a $10 increase on first and second checked baggage, whereas the payment for a third bag will leap by an further $50.

Currently, tickets bought by April 2 checklist pay as you go bag fees at $35 for the primary bag, $45 for the second, and $150 for the third. Starting Friday, these fees will increase to $45, $55, and $200, respectively.

Similarly, baggage paid within 24 hours of journey at the moment price $40 for the primary bag, $50 for the second, and $150 for the third. Starting Friday, these fees will increase to $50, $60, and $200, respectively.

“Customers in most markets will still enjoy a $5 discount if they prepay for their bags online 24 hours before their flight,” the airline mentioned, referring to the primary two baggage.

The airline emphasised that eligible passengers — such as United Chase credit card holders, MileagePlus Premier members, energetic navy members, and vacationers in premium cabins — can nonetheless verify a bag at no cost. 

Earlier in March, Kirby acknowledged the rising stress from larger jet fuel costs, noting that over the course of a 12 months, the elevated prices might exceed twice the company’s most profitable 12 months.
