The LA City Council’s worst idea yet – Latest News

LA’s police chief had higher transfer over.

Three far-leftists on town council, together with town controller, are making a run for his job.

These radicals — Eunisses Hernandez, Hugo Soto-Martinez, Nithya Raman and Kenneth Mejia — assume they need to run the LAPD.

And they’ve hatched a plan to take it over, The California Post reported this week.

Two phrases: Utter. Lunacy.

Mayor Karen Bass ought to condemn this madness.

The majority of the 15-member council ought to defeat it.

And if the council lets it advance, voters ought to repudiate this insult to Los Angeles.

What critical individual desires abolish-the-police socialists in charge of LA’s best?

The anti-police faction “aims to change how many officers are hired, how resources are deployed, what tactics are allowed, and how the department’s multibillion-dollar budget is spent,” The Post reported.

Talk about micromanagement. And by people with no discernible experience in law enforcement, no much less.

If the scheme succeeds, right here’s what LA residents can anticipate:

Defunded police.

Fewer officers.

More crime.

Longer response occasions.

More riots, violence, and normal chaos.

Fewer penalties for criminals.

And of course: much-degraded public security.

And: If this plot succeeds, how precisely would the understaffed LAPD entice and retain high expertise?

The division struggles with recruitment as it’s, due to City Hall’s animus towards police.

If the socialists seize the division? Expect worse — a lot worse.

As former LA County Sheriff and present candidate for sheriff Alex Villanueva instructed The California Post Opinion staff: “The applicant pool is averse to working under leadership perceived to be compromised.”

So … who shall be left to keep Angelenos protected?

Mayor Karen Bass has no solutions.

She retreated this week from her 2022 marketing campaign pledge to revive LAPD staffing to 9,500 officers, up from 9,027 on the time.

So … who shall be left to keep Angelenos protected? Mayor Karen Bass has no solutions. David Buchan for CA Post

Today, the quantity sits at 8,677 — an embarrassing 25-year low.

“My goal changed, unfortunately,” Bass mentioned. “I do hope that one day we get to the expansion, but we are not there now.”

The metropolis wants higher than hope and “not there now.” It wants a plan from the mayor — as she runs for re-election this 12 months — to refuse the council radicals and rebuild the LAPD.

And the usurpers’ declare that increasing their energy would defend minorities from police overreach? Bilge and nonsense.

As Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute wrote in The Post this week, the information disprove claims of bias, and, in truth, the LAPD “sets a national standard of professionalism and restraint.”

The radicals’ energy play is ludicrous … and harmful.

Public security is essentially the most basic accountability of any native authorities.

The LA council crazies not solely don’t take it severely; they’re actively working to degrade it.

Think about that.

This ploy to play police chief is, maybe, the council’s worst idea yet.
