Certain DWP benefit claimants are set to be affected by a major new motoring rule change, with new updates hitting highway customers this summer season. Changes to the Motability Scheme come into impact from July 1, 2026 which might make vehicle leases more costly.
The Motability Scheme permits disabled people to make use of mobility allowances to lease a new car, with the programme protecting insurance coverage, upkeep and breakdown help. However, from July, VAT and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) will apply to leases on the Motability Scheme, growing prices.

Motability previously explained that action was being taken to help manage additional costs to keep the scheme reasonably priced and sustainable for the long time period.
