“I grew up in Vegas and when I went to the racetrack… I kind of grew up the way of like, you bring your friends with you, and you hate everybody else that’s there, because they’re your competition, right? You want to beat those guys. You want to beat them into the ground. You want to go home with the trophy and the money and come back and do it all again next week, you know?”

Busch’s remarks come amid ongoing tension with fellow driver Denny Hamlin. Speaking on his Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin addressed Busch’s recent struggles, suggesting they could be linked to the NextGen car he now drives for Richard Childress Racing.

“If you’re expecting Kyle Busch to just go back to Victory Lane on a regular basis, you are kidding yourselves and you’re going to be very disappointed,” Hamlin said. “I just think that until we change cars or something changes, something has to change. I don’t know what. I have no idea. I’m not in his shoes. I’m not his crew chief. I’m not his engineer. And I’m not his team owner.”

While Hamlin additionally praised his former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate as one of the best drivers of all time, the feedback appeared to have little impression on Busch. The two-time Cup Series champion responded in a sometimes blunt fashion

“If Denny wants to switch cars, I’ll switch cars with him. Any day of the week, any time,” Busch informed The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck. “I’d love for him to show me that he can carry it better than I can.”

“I have consumed some of it over time,” Busch mentioned about online chatter. “80 percent of people don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. In this instance, I don’t know that Denny Hamlin even knows what the hell he’s talking about. He can bash me all he wants. I can certainly make his life hell.”
