Dale Earnhardt Jr was ecstatic after his driver, Sammy Smith, was awarded the win at Saturday’s Rockingham Speedway race after Jesse Love was disqualified.
Love was disqualified from Saturday’s race regardless of selecting up the win, after NASCAR officers decided there was a violation on his car. Love’s No.2 Chevrolet apparently violated the principles regarding the contact between the truck trailing bar arm and U-bolt saddle.
As a outcome of the disqualification, Smith was elevated from second to first, being awarded the win. Despite Earnhardt Jr.’s glee, not everybody was blissful.
After posting a celebratory GIF on X (previously Twitter) – Earnhardt Jr. was accused of celebrating a ‘Mickey Mouse’ victory, to which he responded: “Beer toast is Tuesday!”
Speaking to FOX, Smith admitted even he wasn’t too proud of the character of the win.
“It’s tough to win them like that, it’s unfortunate. I’ve been on the other end of the stick, where Jesse’s at, but you take them when you can get them, I guess.”
Smith was made to attend for his win, with the post-race inspections going late into the evening at Rockingham.
“There have obviously been some issues for about two hours now, so me and my crew chief have just stayed around. I got nowhere else to be besides Church tomorrow for Easter, so we decided to hang around for a bit. Glad I stayed.”
He continued: “I wasn’t too disappointed [with second]. It was a good day overall. The two car – they ultimately had the best car today – but I felt like we did a great job putting ourselves in position to be in second with that issue they had today.”

Smith bagged a $100,000 bonus for profitable Saturday’s race, because it was classed as one of the ‘Dash 4 Cash’ races. But regardless of the win and bonus, Smith’s focus is on the following race, which is able to happen at Talladega Superspeedway in a week’s time.
