Andy Roddick makes his feelings clear on Coco – Sports News
Coco Gauff, the world No. 3 tennis player, took a glamorous break from her California trip for Indian Wells to attend the Oscars and the Vanity Fair afterparty over the weekend.
She was seen in custom Miu Miu outfits at both events. However, not everyone was pleased with her decision to step out for the night. Andy Roddick has come forward to defend Gauff, stating that her Oscars appearance would not have disrupted her preparation for Indian Wells.
The former U.S. Open champion looked stunning in a custom yellow gown adorned with gems. During a brief interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg, she confessed that she wasn’t “used to this glam”.
Gauff also attended the famous Vanity Fair afterparty, where she changed into a new dress and brought her mother as her date. She wasn’t the only tennis star present – world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and retired legend Serena Williams were also there. However, retired star Roddick noticed some criticism directed at Gauff for attending the Oscars.
He addressed this on his podcast, Served, saying: “I saw someone say, ‘What’s Coco doing at the Oscars?’ Coco is rarely going to get a better chance to either knock something out for a sponsor… [and then] being in her hotel room in Indian Wells three hours later without getting on an airplane, right?
“They should be doing this to people that actually struggle with being professional and training. I’m not sure Coco is the target for that. But in the world of reality, when you’re a global superstar, stopping in LA to do whatever she has to do promoting a brand, a business, whatever it is, and then going to Indian Wells is about as tight an operation as you’re going to get to knock out some stuff that is on your to-do list.”

Gauff herself brushed off critics, expressing delight at her Oscars experience during a press conference: “It was cool to just be in a different space and a different world. I got lucky that Miu Miu was able to dress me and give me a custom look. That was really sweet of them.”
The tennis star also shared her excitement about meeting Hollywood celebrities, revealing: “Yeah, the person I was most surprised about was definitely Samuel L. Jackson. He came up to me, I took a photo with him, he took one with me, and then introduced me to Whoopi Goldberg, which was really cool.”
