Who won NASCAR at Phoenix? Results in full – – Sports News
Christopher Bell became the first driver since Kyle Larson in 2021 to capture three consecutive NASCAR Cup Series races in a row with his victory at the Shriners Children’s 500 in Phoenix.
A wreck-filled day ended up with Bell in a battle between Denny Hamlin and Larson himself in front of a crowded pack featuring the surprising Josh Berry. “How bout that, race fans!” an ebullient Bell admitted after his win.
Bell’s win was the closest victory in the history of the Cup Series in Phoenix. He led the race after Stage 2 after William Byron captured the flag at the conclusion of Stage 1.
Bell’s day was made easier after a pack of key drivers saw their race end early following a crash on lap 99. A slew of big names found themselves caught in the crossfire, including: Carson Hocevar, Chase Briscoe, Brad Keselowski, Riley Herbst, Justin Haley, Cole Custer, and Shane Van Gisbergen.
“Yeah that was about the biggest you can crash in Phoenix,” Briscoe admitted to FOX Sports after his race ended.
“I got myself in a bad spot and I was probably trying to fade a little more left just knowing the No. 77 (Carson Hocevar) was on my right… unfortunate but try to learn from it and not do that again. On to Vegas [next week].”
Katherine Legge became the eighth woman to feature in the NASCAR Cup Series history, driving the No. 78 Toyota for Live Fast Motorsports.
However, she saw an early caution flag and eventually pitted against the advice from her team. “Hey guys, I’m sorry. I’m so tight. I have so much wheel in it that it got loose on exit, but it’s because I’m so tight,” she said into her mic.
