While the duo sped down the straightaway during the back-and-forth race, Smith doored Dillon coming off Turn 4 — inflicting the 33-year-old to get rear-ended by Austin Cindric.
To add insult to damage, Dillon finally crossed the checkered line in third, making him the primary driver to not advance to the NASCAR All-Star Race with solely the highest two finishers shifting ahead. Smith, in the meantime, settled for a sixth-place end within the All-Star Open.
On the heels of the on-track incident, Dillon confronted Smith and gave the No. 38 Ford driver a piece of his thoughts. Since inking a multi-year, full-time driver contract with Front Row Motorsports back in January, Smith has shown flashes of brilliance during the 2025 campaign. The 25-year-old placed ninth at Phoenix Raceway and won pole at Talladega Superspeedway while finishing within the top 20 in six of the last seven Cup Series races.
