Auto safety regulators probe 1.4M Honda and Acura – Business News
US auto safety regulators have launched a probe into more than 1.4 million Honda and Acura automobiles over a risk of engine failure – after tons of of drivers reported points with the automobiles.
The new recall covers an estimated 1,410,806 automobiles, together with the next fashions:
2018-2020 Acura TLX
2016-2020 Acura MDX
2016-2020 Honda Pilot
2018-2020 Honda Odyssey
2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration initially investigated this concern beneath a recall in November 2023, after its workplace obtained 414 stories of engine failure within the automobiles. At the time, it stated the failures had been attributable to defective connecting rod bearings.
Connecting rod bearings maintain the crankshaft and connecting rod in place as they rotate. If these bearings turn into broken, they’ll trigger engine failure.
At least 4 of these incidents led to a crash or fire, in line with the NHTSA. It stated it isn’t conscious of any accidents or deaths associated to the difficulty.

The NHTSA closed the unique investigation after it discovered engine failures that weren’t attributable to “the same crankshaft manufacturing defect” that Honda recognized in its 2023 recall.
Regulators on Wednesday opened a new probe into the engine failures due to the high quantity of stories “to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues.”
