LIRR fare evaders and more: Letters – Latest News
Evaders within the lavatory
I’ve a great manner for the MTA to stop some fare evaders (“$1 Billion,” Sept 11).
Have the conductors on the LIRR go after the people who get on the prepare and go instantly into the restroom. These people lock themselves in there for all or half of the journey to keep away from paying their fare, inconveniencing paying passengers.
As an LIRR commuter for 43 years, I see this nearly on a regular basis. The conductors flip a blind eye however have their fingers out for enormous raises when the following contract negotiation comes round.

Thinking is math
For a majority of college students, the only motive for taking math is to study how to assume higher (“New lows in testing,” Sept. 10).
But for the previous 35 years and counting, more and more considering has been taken out of math — making it more boring, much less helpful and having for much longer mechanical strategies.
In addition, the moment these college students press the calculator button is the moment they stop considering.

Not a climate cult
One of conservatives’ favourite rhetorical gambits is to explain environmentalists as “cultists” (“Apocalypse Not,” Editorial, Sept. 8).
If worrying about climate change means I’m half of a cult, it’s the strangest cult ever — one whose members dream of their beliefs being invalidated by strong scientific proof. If in truth sea ranges aren’t rising quicker, I’ll be delighted to be confirmed flawed (an angle by no means present in real cultists).
But it’s value noting that nations like Tuvalu and the Maldives are beginning to relocate complete communities as a result of seas are encroaching on their lands. Being involved about extraordinary people and their lives is straightforward human decency, not a mark of irrationality.

JustICE within the US
Following the Supreme Court’s determination about what ICE is permitted to do in California, it’s clear that the precept of having three separate and equal branches of United States authorities no longer exists (“Court’s ‘go’ on LA raids,” Sept. 9).
SCOTUS is now, formally, a department of the Trump administration. Shameful and deplorable. Even Ronald Reagan would have discovered this unthinkable.

No mothers blamed
To describe Bethany Mandel’s column about Tylenol and autism as hysterical may label me a misogynist, however clearly her straw man (mothers) has no place within the dialogue of whether or not Tylenol causes or contributes to autism (“Tylenol & Autism: Blaming Moms Again,” Bethany Mandel, PostOpinion, Sept. 11).
No wise particular person is blaming pregnant girls who’ve taken Tylenol or (years in the past) thalidomide. The problem is whether or not Tylenol is fully secure to take during being pregnant. Why would Mandel need RFK to stop attempting to study the reply?

Praise for the blitz
I applaud the Trump administration’s determination to launch Operation Midway Blitz (“DHS sweep in Chicago,” Sept. 9).
It’s the federal government’s accountability to make sure that threats to our security are eliminated. Operation Midway Blitz won’t solely help Illinois, however the nation as a complete. It sends a message that unlawful immigration and lawlessness will no longer be tolerated.
