YouTube to pay $24.5M to settle Trump’s lawsuit – Business News

Alphabet-owned YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit that President Donald Trump introduced in opposition to the company over the suspension of his account following the January 2021 US Capitol riots, a courtroom submitting confirmed on Monday.

Trump filed lawsuits in opposition to Twitter, now generally known as X, and Facebook proprietor Meta, in addition to Alphabet’s Google, and their chief executives in July 2021, alleging they unlawfully silenced conservative viewpoints.

Both Meta and X agreed earlier this 12 months to pay to settle the lawsuits.

Under the settlement, $22 million will likely be paid on Trump’s behalf to the Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit group devoted to the construction of a $200 million ballroom that Trump is building on the White House.

The relaxation of the settlement fee will go to different plaintiffs within the case together with the American Conservative Union.
